A guard for the Weyr, he was a bear of a man, he instilled attributes in his daughter that he felt were desirable in any human being. (1. that hard work will get you anywhere, 2. being a kind hearted person does not mean you need to be taken advantage of.)
Mother: Miri, (33 turns) Weyr Drudge
Not quite as level headed as Xandair, Miri, is a kind and warm woman. She truly has a mothers touch when it comes to her three children and her niece and nephew. She has a strong sense of truth about her, which led her to inform E'roil of his young daughter.
Siblings:
Mikaele (12 turns) is a bright eyed version of her father. Already towering over Kess, he's broad shouldered and sturdily built. He was not chosen to become a candidate but instead will follow was his father did, becoming a guard.
Rebeckaa (8 months) the baby her father would never get to meet. She came not long after his death. The future is unending for her. For now, she is a content and chubby, oh so spoiled baby.

She has a peaches and cream complexion, which gets the slightest bit of color when she in embarrassed. Her hair falls just past her shoulders and is often times swept into a loose braid, leaving tendrils of it framing her face. It has a soft chestnut hue with deep read undertones to it. It has always been said that she has her fathers eyes, large, and round with long black lashes. They have a soft doe like aspect to them. Their color is like soft silver, slowly melting and churning.
She spends most of her days in a long sleeved tunic, brick red in color. A pair of brown leggings and brown boots that go to just below the knee finish her outfit. She's come to find that the tunic while warm isn't' heavy and that the leggings allow for a large range of motion. Her hands are nimble and she is rather spry even for a girl of 16. She enjoys running and climbing, as a child she was alway getting into mischief. Not to intentionally get into trouble, but more because she is curious.
She has nimble fingers and does well with details. Penmanship is her forte. Like her personality, her writing tends to be very neat, with clean lines. She has a sharp memory and tends to make things easy to remember by turning them into songs. She has spend a lot of time studying with the Harper. Kesstriel is forever on time, keeping to the motto. "If your 15 minutes early you're on time, if you're on time you're late."

She truly is her fathers daughter in this aspect, though being around her mother, some characteristics have rubbed off. Level headed and always soft spoken, she tends to think before acting. She has a strong sense for doing the right thing, and for knowing the truth. As was her father, Kess is an observer. She'll take note of the world around her, with eyes as keen as a hawk.
A kind heart and warm demeanor are aspects derived straight from her mother. Children tend to like her for those reasons. She is never one to turn a child away when they ask for something. They will often times come running to find her, either to play or if they have scraped a knee.
Kess has a gentle calming attribute. This is taken from her father. In tense situations she is usually the one taking the deep breathe before letting her words, or actions get away from her. She can easily multi-task, and is very good at micro managing time. When she feels that no one is paying attention to her, she tends to sing softly to herself. Though she doesn't think she holds any real talent, she actually has a pleasant voice. On occasion she will slip away from the world, to find a corner for just a moment to catch herself.

Things moved fast for them, but time seemed to stand still. Their family was growing.
Being the oldest, Kess enjoyed many years of her father's graces. She was a treasure to him. He was fascinated by how quickly she learned and grew. He taught her songs, and games. As a small child she was pleasant to everyone around her. The others in her age group got along with her well, she was never one for fighting. More often she was the one breaking it up. The littlest girl with the biggest personality.
The arrival of her little brother gave Kess something more. It was as if she now had a purpose. It was to protect him. When he was a baby she would visit with him, bring him things, sing to him. As he got older it became apparent that he would need no protecting. By the age of 9 he could lift her onto his shoulders.
It seemed that time passed slowly from that day on. Until the illness swept the Weyr. Many fell ill. Members of her close knit family. First her aunt, then her father. Both were taken from the world early, and both are sorely miss as far as the girl is concerned. Miri held strong. Losing both her dear sister, and loving husband, so close together. Life continues, the world goes on. She had the children to think of, no just her own but also her sisters, and those of the others. So many had been left without loved ones.
In the autumn of this past turn Aliath rose to mate for the first time. The resulting clutch with the Bronze Xialanth yeilded several eggs. She stood with the other candidates, impatiant to not only see that these young dragonets were healthy but also to impress. Kess hung back in the line, her hair pulled into two tight braids down either side of her head. She was nervous and not just for herself. For as joyous as the hatching was, it was also dangerous.
Her silvery eyes scanned the eggs as they rocked back and forth in the hot sand. She shifted her weight between her feet,
He stayed where he was till he was solid on his feet and stared the long line of Candidates down. Oh no, there was no stumbling for this one. But as he glared at the human children before him; another, smaller egg rocked and cracked. The hatchling that tumbled out left none confused as to his color. Even through the damp egg goo. He lifted a much smaller head than his brother and looked around with what seemed to be little surprise.
As he crawled slowly out of his shell, everyone could see that his hide was a dark, clear blue. And like a sapphire, he glistened under the lights. His brother meanwhile pushed past several of the boys and locked his red whirling eyes with a tall lad.

The midnight blue was like his brother, decisive. The one he wanted was right in his view. He spread his wings for balance and they were a good spread indeed, even for a hatchling. He looked like a light build, more for speed than anything else. To everyone's surprise the candidate he approached was not male, she was indeed silver eyed, which grew progressively wider as the quiet hatchling approached her with a dignity beyond his years.
