Evalos had already gone through an entire wineskin. Two weeks of punishment and he was done with it. Herding was for drudges. He was still pissed at the fact that he was even punished. On top of it the Candidate Master still thought he was behind it. If he even got to stand now it wold be a miracle. He'd sneak onto the sands anyway if he had to.
He gulped wine like it was water and he rarely drank. Not that anyone cared. As far as he knew his entire family was ignoring him right now. Of course they would be. His perfect brother was Weyrleader! Ugh. If things could be any worse...he did not want to even think about the possibility of not impressing.
The darkly handsome young man did not notice the looks from the drudges who were serving the night hearth. He was not interested in women right now. He was focusing on impressing a dragon and then he had two turns of celibacy if he did. Of course he could handle that if he had a dragon. He gulped more wine and used his wrist to dry of his mouth before standing up quickly. Too quickly, since he had to steady himself.
He was talking to a woman but he hadn't looked to see if it was a drudge or not, "Some more wine please." He spoke as if he weren't drunk at all. "If you could just keep it coming till I leave that would be best."

The wineskin was half empty, and the warmth was spreading through her belly pleasantly, so Estess handed the skin to Evalos without any fuss. The kid looked like he needed it after all, probably more than she did. Must be hard to be E'dian's brother, that man had a stick up his rear and no doubt about it.
She leaned back in a spine snapping stretch and nearly toppled backwards over her chair. With drunken giggles, Estess sat back upright. Oh boy, she'd had more than she thought she had. Tomorrow was going to be a bother. More wing drills, at least Zhatiath was asleep. The green complaining about being dizzy was almost as annoying as her complaining about a sore head. That at least she could put off till tomorrow.
"You got it boyo. And it looks like you need it." Estess leaned forward, arms draped across her knees. He wasn't bad looking really, better than his brother. If he would smile more that is, right now he looked about as friendly as one of the big southern storms.

He took the skin from her and nodded. Boy did he ever. He was about to take a swig when what she said sunk in. Evalos sat down with a thud, nearly mising his seat. Then he looked back at the woman who sat beside him. "Oh, its been a rough couple sevendays I can tell you."
And he was going to at this rate. Drunk Evalos was about as tightlipped as a girl at a slumber party. "First off my brother becomes Weyrleader and while that might be good for some people its making my life worse. Then the Candidate Master has it out for me. Anything I do I get punished for. Then theres the fact that I'm twenty." He shook his head. Anyone would know what that meant.
"Just wait. When I impress, they will all have to eat their words." There was no doubt in Evalos' mind that he was destined for a dragon. He did notice at long last that she seemed to be in a better mood than he was. Running his hand through his brown hair he looked back over at her.
"Are you drinking in celebation?" He should probably lighten up a little. Evalos gulped more wine.

She listened, well really she only half listened. But that was better than not listening at all right? Everyone knew about the Weyrleader's brother, his story was nothing she hadn't heard many times over. Some voices were sympathetic, most were not. Evalos did not go out of his way to garner any popularity.
Celebration? Like one needed a reason to drink around here. Estess shook her head, sending dark locks flying. "Nah, just trying to relax some. Everything is all doom and gloom around here. You should lighten up too, dragons don't Impress because you're upset."
Taking another long drink from her glass, she looked down at the now empty wine cup with a sad sigh. It always disappeared faster than she wanted it to. Setting it back down at the table she looked back to Evalos. He really didn't seem so bad, but maybe that was just the wine talking. "I'm sure you will though, that flight was somethin. Aliath is sure to clutch well."

She had a point. Besides what good would it do, letting them ruin this time in his life. He was better than that. Finishing off his own wine he looked back at the woman. She was very pretty now that he was looking. Why was he looking?
He shook his head and looked at the empty wineskin. More would be better. "I will." He said without hesitation. Evalos had never doubted that he would impress. If he didn't he would probably have a mental breakdown and leave the Weyr.
"Do you want more?" He asked noticing she was looking at her empty wine glass. He could no longer feel his nose and the room was a little fuzzy but he was sure he could get up. As he tried to stand up a drudge came over and offered to get him some more wine. "More for the lady too." He added, indicating the woman next to him.
"Your right, we should be having fun." He slowly sat back in his chair because he couldn't quite tell how far he had to go. "I'm sorry I don't recall your name. I'm Evalos."

Of course he didn't remember her name she thought acidly, no one remembered greenrider's names. Not even a sharding candidate. Estess's lips pursed together in a frown for several moments before she huffed and held out her glass for more wine. Her response to that line was typically grumpy Estess. "Estess, rider of green Zhatiath."
At least most people remembered her dragon if they remembered either of them. But then, they were both so small that they were often literally below notice. If Estess stood up straight, she would likely reach below Evalos's armpits. But then, being short had some benefits, there were times when it was better not to be noticed.
She giggled again, fancy a candidate not knowing her name, it really did figure. Ah well at least there was wine. Enough wine made everything alright, at least for a short time. Estess regarded the man in front of her again, yes he was a man and not a boy; dragon or no. "And don't you forget it."

Evalos smiled of course she was a rider. "Estess is a beautiful name. I won't forget it." He meant that or at least he thought he did. However much he wanted to remember names he was not always the best with them. He had actually not met her formally, of that he was sure.
The drudge had brought them both wine. "Too bad theres no music." He commented. Evalos was now in the mood to dance and probably would although poorly if there was music. He touched a hand to his nose and laughed. "I can't feel my nose." He said still laughing.
Evalos drank more wine and although he tried to keep a straight face he now seemed to be wearing a silly smile. Drunk he may be but he could still think and feel and therefore was not drunk enough.

With a carefree laugh that only ever left her mouth when she was drunk, Estess stood somewhat shakily. He liked her name, well perhaps she could forgive him for now knowing it to begin with. She held her arms out to balance herself, still giggling. Whoopsie, perhaps she'd had a bit more than she had thought. "Who needs music to dance!"
She held out a hand to Evalos; now sure that he wasn't the big, scary, mean spirited creature that everyone made him out to be. Though he was assuredly, much better company. All the Weyrleader did was scowl and order people this way and that, far from Estess's favorite kind of person.
Not feel his nose indeed! Estess found herself giggling like a little girl and she twirled in place, only to tip precariously and stumble. Whoops again!

He laughed as she stood up. It was nice to laugh and have fun for a change. Taking her hand he followed suit, almost as wobbly as she was. Grinning he looked into the dark brown eyes of Estess and realized that even if he was not drunk he would consider her good looking. Of course she was a bit petite which would make dancing a bit trickier. He could handle it though. The smiling man was actually a good enough dancer by Weyr standards. Treading carefully he spun her around a couple times to a tune inside his head that he was not about to try to hum. Evalos thankfully had her hand in his own when she stumbled. He giggled at her stumbling.
Still laughing he spun around himself. “You know my feet are not a light as I thought they were.” As he spoke he almost fell down himself. Dizziness was taking over and his breath was shortening. Maybe he should stop dancing…

It was not a big surprise when she found herself giggling with her head against his chest. They stopped spinning but her head seemed to keep on doing so. Estess groaned as the wine really caught up with her. "Well," she said after a moment. "At least you haven't stepped on my feet."
He smelled good, why had she not noticed that before? Estess giggled again and clung onto Evalos for support. Standing really was harder than it looked when combined with wine. "I'm not sure I can dance much more either."
Maybe music made such things easier, she didn't remember the last time she had gotten quite this drunk. But then, Estess always did drink more when there was company. It was her competitive streak, she did not want to be out done in anything. And he certianly won the height contest, darn him.

Wasn't that the truth! Evalos was happy for that too. He had a feeling she could have a temper when she wanted and he did not want to be on the other end of that. Her head on his chest felt so good.
When was the last time he had a woman this close to him? It certainly gave him a bit of a thrill. Wait wait, he was supposed to be leaving women alone till after Weyrling training. Right...right. He told himself and then stopped them from dancing anymore.
He could do anything in this moment. Evalos knew this and she could react anyway she pleased. Drunk people often acted impulsively, even ones who thought they were thinking straight. He touched her face gently with his thumb which traced her cheek near her ear, down to her chin, tilting it up toward him.
"You have soft skin." He said sweetly though it was probably the wine talking. There were other ways to have fun but only if she was game.

Hhmm, well, maybe the wine had been a fine idea. He had nice eyes she mused, in this lighting anyway and she liked the way he smiled. It was genuine, wine induced or no. Most times when men smiled it was only because they were after one thing. And with Estess, that was normally her winnings. Of course, winnings were one thing the greenrider had in vast abundance.
For once in her life, Estess didn't move. A small laugh did escape from her throat, she couldn't help it. He really was a rather nice man, at least he seemed to be right now. Momentarily she wondered if she would remember this tomorrow.
"You have big hands." She giggled for what seemed to be the hundreth time. His hands covered most of her face, they really were rather monstrous compared to hers. Estess placed one hand on top of his and giggled once more, her hand covered about half of his. Oh dear.

He laughed at her announcement that his hands were large. Evalos was fine with his appearance. No matter what was said he was comfortable enough in himself to take everything well. "Or is it that you have small hands?"
He mused this as her hand was against his own. "Mmm I suppose we will never know." He extended his fingers and let his palm face her own. His hands were much larger than hers but hers were very pretty. "Your hands are much nicer than mine." Hers were probably as calloused as his own. Dragonriders, men or women had a lot of work to do and so dod Candidates.
Evalos took her hand to his mouth and kissed the palm gently. It had been so long since he had kissed anyone anywhere. More than a turn and possibly longer than that. He was easily swayed by his feelings now.

At first, Estess stuck her tongue out at him. Small indeed! Well, all the better to filch the coin right out of his pockets. But as he moved her hand, the tongue retreated back into the safety of her mouth. She blinked up at him, looking more like a drunk, startled wherry than a human for those several moments.
Nicer than she had anticipated indeed! Estess could only hope she wasn't slurring her words. That would be a tad embarrassing, and having trouble standing straight was bad enough. "All the better to beat you at Pokirr with."
Well, he thought her hands were nice. Probably he couldn't see the leather stain all over them or the callouses from several years of riding adragonback. But, then, Candidate as he was, he might see and like such things. Estess may ride only green, but she was no slouch! Well, not when she couldn't con anyone to do the work for her. But she never neglected Zhatiath.
It was a rather good thing the dragon was asleep just about then, Estess decided, or she would be trilling. Who would have known such a simple kiss as that would have the effect it did. Quickly deciding it was just the wine, she smiled lazily up at Evalos. He was a nice man, despite it all.

"Mmmm. Thats why I would not bet against someone with as much skill as you have." Evalos was playful now and quite at ease. The wine did have a good effect on him in general. Besides the company one had did help. He was still holding her hand and gently released it when he realized that he was.
The moment of silence that passed was a bit akward for him. Had he overstepped a boundary there? Women were difficult to read especially dragonriders. He did not have enough control of himself at the moment to really spend much time thinking about it though.
"Want to get out of here?" He was personally not in the mood to have people watching him. Evalos did not trust them not to blow things out of proportion and he much preferred to be seduced in private. Where could they go?
