The trio winked into the air over the Jungles from between. THe patrol so far had been quite uneventful, and R'lec was beginning to wonder if this wasn't just some wild goose chase designed to keep the bronzerider out of E'dian's way and out of Gaelle's sight. Was the Weyrleader afraid of some competition then? Sure, Aliath had chosen Xialanth, but everyone knew rider's and dragon's opinions didn't have to be the same on everything.
An endless stretch of green unfolded beneath the dragon wings. R'lec had them flying low to stay as out of sight as possible. Of course, with the disappearance of riders, it was highly unlikely anyone would be looking up, expecting them, anyways. Still, he had his orders. This was their fourth spot on the map E'dian had marked to be investigated.
"Tell the others to land in that clearing, Myneth." He indicated the one a bit aways and to the left of their current direction. They could go over their plans and he'd get A'rik's and J'sian's observations and feelings over the patrol so far.
Myneth passed on the request. His only real interest at the moment was whether or not this place would provide good hunting. (I assumed J'sian is coming, but if he's not, I can edit)

The large blue was having a marvelous time, all this low flying gave him a chance to show off his agility to his larger counterparts. J'sian however, was far more concerned with the task at hand than his merry dragon. And the joy in his voice was unmistakable, he was the only blue to be assigned such tasks in the whole Weyr. Myneth says to land in the clearing.
J'sian tapped the blue's shoulder in conformation and the dragon circled down after the two larger dragons to land. After all Bronzes and Browns were always down before Blues, unless it was in threadfall of course. Then the larger colors could fly through the whole of it, where greens and blues could not.
Alimeth flipped the tip of his wing as he turned just above the treeline. J'sian chuckled inwardly at his dragon's mood. They were one of the few pairs that could apparently be trusted and now here he was on yet another patrol, but this time it was with R'lec and A'rik.

Pantoth glided through that air, small for a brown he was able to keep up with Alimeth just fine. The large blue soared low in the formation and Pan followed suit landing in the clearing along side the bronze Myneth. His held a leg out for A'rik to slide down. I'm assuming we are to wait here? We are to wait instruction, R'lec will let us know.
A'rik landed with both feet hitting the ground with a soft thud. It wasn't often he was allowed to leave the wyer and rarer still to be sent on scouting missions. His knees bent to absorb the impact of the landing. He stood, placed a hand on the dragons lower shoulder and ran the other hand through his short hair. Good flight. He looked over to J'sain and R'lec and waited for further instruction.

(Sorry for the wait guys!)
R'lec waved the other riders over as he dismounted with a well-practiced leap.
"I'm stopping us here as it's the biggest clearing in the area." A bronze, brown, and a blue were not very easy to hide - even in this mass of jungle. Not only were the shades of their hides terrible camoflague, but their combined size was nothing to ignore. Besides, J'sian had already demonstrated how well things went when you tried to hide a dragon in the foliage.
And the bluerider had only one dragon to worry about.
"Our real destination, as E'dian has marked on the map he gave us, are the caves you might have seen before landing. Just a bit to the northwest from here. We'll go there on foot." There will be no hunting. He gave the command sternly to Myneth. They'd come to far now to have their cover blown by a bored dragon.
"But first," Remembering the other thing their Weyrleader had imparted on him before leaving, "give me your impressions of the patrol." If he was going to get a wing, he needed to be sure a good report got back to E'dian.

The short bluerider shrugged nonchalantly, there really had not been too much of interest so far. Behind him, Alimeth settled down and curled his tail about him, trying to make himself as small as possible. Which, for a thirty eight foot long dragon was no mean feat. "Nothing much, a few cold campfires were all we spotted along with that wagon trail awhile back."
Of course J'sian and Alimeth were known for their talent at Search, not necessarily at patrol. The pair tended to daydream rather too much to be observant enough for such an occupation. Alimeth snorted and laid his head down on one forepaw. We saw felines too. "Oh and that small pack of felines that scattered when we flew over."

A'rik crossed to join the other two riders. Pantoth had already settled down beside Alimeth. He curled down into a tight knot. A'rik scanned the area around them then looked over to R'lec. "We saw about the same. Cold campfires and some faded wagon tracks."
He ran a hand through his short blond hair, and exhaled. It had been quite the trip, since the two of them had hardly traveled far from the Weyr.

Felines and wagon trails. R'lec sure had the brightest glows in the bunch with these two fellows. Was that what E'dian had planned? Letting the bronze rider think he'd recieved a top assignment, when it was really all of a joke. His eyes narrowed a bit.
"Let's go, then. Myneth - send us word if anything happens here." He shouldered the pack he'd brought. There was no telling what they'd run into, or how long it'd take them. They'd all split up the supplies evenly before leaving. "No use wasting more time. Spread out." He nodded then started a brisk pace out of the clearing. If they made good time they could hit those caves before nightfall.

For a long moment, J'sian stood there fidgeting. Faranth, he did not want to correct a bronzerider, but splitting up seemed just about the worst idea humanly possible right about now. The bluerider shot a pleading glance at A'rik, no doubt the solid Candidate Master would come to the same conclusion that he had. This was a really poor choice... Between felines and the strange holdless they were supposed to be looking for, walking in the jungle, unarmed and dragonless, just did not seem like the best option.
"Ah.. Erm..." J'sian coughed, his pleasure at this venture dissipating like smoke on the wind. He really did not want to correct a bronzerider, especially one as touchy as R'lec was. No wonder the man rode bronze, he was far to flighty for a brown. Alimeth of course, rather thought his rider was being silly. You won't be hurt. I am here. Maybe not, we've done this before. But that fool bronzerider has a hot head. Maybe we should have gone alone again. I am easier to hide, even if its not fun.
Outwardly, J'sian winced at the dragon's silent comment and looked to A'rik for support. He had a sinking feeling in his gut that they were going to need more help than just the three of them. Running a hand over his bald head, the bluerider shifted from foot to foot, thoroughly indecisive about the matter.

A'riks eyes had been fixed on the surrounding foliage. He was intently listening to his instructions. At the mentions of splitting off alone his green eyes shot to the Bronze rider. As much as he didn't want to step on R'lec's toes but was that really a good idea. I don't like that. Not at all.[/color] A'rik contemplated his dragons silent comment. I know, neither do I, but should I contradict him, he is the leader of this little patrol.
He toyed in his mind the consequences of either situation. Deciding that coming against a feline, he would have better odds with at least one other by his side, he spoke up. "Do you really think its wise to split up? I don't want to step on your toes R'lec but three against a feline or holdless sounds like better odds to me then by my lonesome." His voice had his usual lightness to it. While he was being serious he didn't want the Bronze to feel threatened.
He placed his hands over his bent knees and shot a reassuring look to J'sain. It wasn't often the brown was more sure then the bluerider.

R'lec could have been sent out with a pair of Weyrlings instead of these two, and have been the better for it. They, at least, would have the good sense to keep their mouths shut. Or even that greenrider A'rik had mentioned at the meeting with E'dian. She would have been much more easier on the eyes.
The bronzerider's shoulders tensed. He rolled his neck to relieve some of the tension, reminding himself to be somewhat civil and not just leave the dimglows to whatever fate awaited them out here in the middle of nowhere. "I was under the impression my orders were to be followed," He hadn't borhtered looking back at the other two. "I want a triangular formation, I'll take head point. Decide among yourselves who wants which side." He paused and turned now, sensing their unease and his own frustration growing.
"We'll stay in eye sight of each other, and if either of you spots something, whistle. It wouldn't do for something to sneak up on us. This spreads out our line of sight." He made sure to make eye-contact with bosh J'sian and A'rik.
"Now move."

Really, could this man be any more sour? He was about as enjoyable as biting into an unripe redfruit. J'sian pursed his lips together and nodded, far be it for a blue rider to correct a bronze. He moved to the left of R'lec. Behind him, Alimeth crouched lower, his tail sweaping back and forth agitatedly. No, niether of them liked this plan. Though, it was no doubt at least slightly safer than when he'd picked up T'van outside of Southern Hold. Of course, that had ended well, especially when the lad proved he could Impress Brown.
Keep an eye out. Would ya? Already doing so. I smell something. The blue dragon swung his head low and spoke to both the brown and bronze beside him. I smell felines. What J'sian then wondered was if he meant the small kind, or the 'rip your arms from their socket' kind. He ran a hand over his shaven head and sighed. Why oh why did that sinking feeling in his stomach keep getting heavier. And why did they have to be partnered with this arrogant bronze. He was likely to get all three of them killed.
No doubt E'dian would be displeased about that. The Weyr could hardly afford to lose a blue much less a bronze. Especially now with another Queen. Ali, do let me know if you hear or see any of them near by. I only smell them. Lets hope that it stays at only smell.

Pantoth remained by the blue's side. His head tilted up, nostrils flairing. His thought crossed into both the bronze and blue. His eyes whirled a brilliant orange of concern for what might lie beyond the edge of the clearing. Honestly this trip would be quite a bit more enjoyable if R'lec would lighten up. A'rik was all about safty and responsibility, but this was a bit on the sour side. He glanced to J'sain for a little reassurance. This was going to be a long couple of days.
A'rik's greens eyes scanned the trees around them. A feline was not something he wanted to encounter. Though he knew going on this trip with R'lec was no doubt going to be interesting, perhaps he hadn't weighed the dangers properly. He took the right side of the leader. He moved slowly through the brush taking note of the trees and branches around him. He was not going to miss a single movement.
