He was at his wits end and it was not going to stop there he could tell. Yesterday Rovanoth would not eat and then he slept for the entire day except for the candlemark he got him to take a bath and get oiled. Ev'os had not left his side for fear that the dragon would wake and he'd be doing some chores.
Today Rovanoth had yet to wake and it was nearing mid-day. He had not informed the Weyrlingmaster of any of this nor the Master Healer. Ev'os at first, refused to believe that anything could be wrong with his dragon.
He had too much pride. Enough pride that perhaps it would get his dragon killed before he really lived. The young man could not see any of this, only that his dragon should be like the others, healthy and thriving. He had performed every task to the best of his abilities. Even his agitation at the dragon not waking was not waking the Bronze.
He would not ask for help. This was his responsibility, somehow he had failed Rovanoth. Ev'os would go through in his mind everything they had done together. Then he would find out what was wrong and it would be mended. He liked that idea.

Kess had spend the morning at their usual spot, giving Claralth a bath and oiling along side Havalie, and Nanyaa. Clar teetered back to the Barracks, ready for a short nap. She followed along behind him. Watching his tail swish as he moved, almost too gracefully for a creature of his size. Clar continued his jolly way to the room that they shared when he stopped suddenly, and looked at the door to another barrack. I don't think they are quite right in there. With out thinking she replied. "What kind of not right?" She looked at the door and contemplated whose room that was.
So is this not right feeling worth looking into? Or are you my dragon friend making a joke? Clar looked back at her. Oh right, fine. She walked to the door and gave it a light knock. She didn't know who was on the other side, or what might be going on. She was never one to pry into others business but she supposed that if Clar felt that something was wrong and worth looking into, it was a good reason to step outside of her comfort zone.

Someone knocked on the door but he did not even glance in the direction of the door. He had decided not to take his eyes off the Bronze for even one second. Ev'os was quite happy to dwell in the silence of the Barracks and now some interloper was going to ruin it.
Rovanoth would have whoever it was come in. Being that his dragon could not argue with him at this time, Ev'os did what the dragon would have wanted anyway. "You can come, the door is not locked." Obviously, he rolled his eyes.
Not bothering to see who it was he stayed standing and staring at his Bronze. When would he wake up? Ev'os sighed, forgetting that he now had an audience. How long could a dragon sleep?

Kess pushed on the door and it opened slowly. She peered into the room, waiting for her eyes to adjust to the dimness of the room. Inside Rovanoth was passed out on his couch. E'vos stood not far away from the dragon. She took a few steps into the room to get a better look. Clar's head appeared from beyond the doorway.
"Is something wrong?" Her eyes like E'vos' were glued on Ravonoth. He didn't seem quite right. Something was in fact wrong. She looked to E'vos. She wasn't expecting him to tell her anything, she probably shouldn't even be getting involved. After all she wasn't exactly close to E'vos by any means.

Good grief it had to be a nice person. He did not want to offend the blue or his female rider so he stayed silent for a good long time. The Bronze's pallor was dimming. He could see it as well as anyone. Whether he wanted to admit it to himself or not was the question.
The time it took before he replied would have made anyone else leave but he felt Kess was as patient as her dragon. With a dark look cast her direction he answered, "What does it look like?" It was obvious that something was not right with Rovanoth. He himself had not been to lessons the last couple of days.
The short answer was not meant as harshly as it had most probably come across as. Ev'os was obviously upset and disturbed that his Bronze should be anything but the picture of health. He had seemed so stong and sure for a hatchling. Gulping as he noted the Bronze's breathing seemed more shallow than earlier he froze to watch.
"What could possibly be wrong?" He said softly, if anyone were to see him cry it would not be Kess. It was obvious enough that the often arrogant man was at a loss. He could continue to do nothing, or... "I can't lose him." He said in desperation. "Kess, can you, would you," He paused, "The Dragon Healer. Could Claralth find him?"

Kess stood staring down at the dragon. He was lying so still and his breathing had slowed considerably in the short time since her arrival. She moved across the room to stand next to E'vos. "I'm sure Master Phaedon can will know." She was trying to sound reassuring, though she wasn't sure if it was convincing. Clar, do you remember the dragon healer from the first day? The one who measured you? She made her way back to the door and stopped just before the end of Claralths nose. His eyes whirled orange. Concern for the bronze beyond her no doubt. I know youre worried. She pushed her way pasted him and began her way down the hallway. It was faster for her to take off on foot. The Masters Weyr wasn't far from the Weyrling Barracks. I know of the Master Dragon Healer Phaedon. Though you will be quicker I think.
She was already out of the Barracks and into the main hall, she made her way through the weyr toward the dragon infirmary. Her feet hit the floor hard as she made good time. Ducking and dodging through passers by, she shouted "excuse me's" as she went. The dragon healer would most likely be in the dragon infirmary, and if he wasn't there was no doubt someone who would know where to find him. Kess knew that E'vos would no settle for anyone other than the Master himself.
She approached the opening to the dragon infirmary. Out of breath she entered the infirmary and scanned the room for the Master Healer. Kess didn't see him there. She approached a near by apprentice. "Excuse me, do you know where I can find Master Phaedon?"

He heard her say something that should have been comforting but he was much to concentrated on his dragon to really be listening. When she left to find the Dragon Healer, Ev'os let out a long breath and calmed his mind down. There was no reason to get upset. Rovanoth was fine, the Dragon Healer would know what to do to make him as healthy as the others.
Ev'os did not consider the fact that his dragon was not the only one in danger at this critical point in their lives. Whether anyone elses dragon was ill, he did not care. His own was weighing too heavily on his thoughts and emotions. "You'll be great, I promise." He said to the dragon who obviously could not hear him.
-----
Meanwhile in the Dragon Healer's space, the apprentice had no idea where Phaedon was. After the girl asked him there was a loud crashing sound from the other side of the room. "Flaming dragon breath! I told you not to put things of that nature up so high. I'll expect you to restore the stock that has been irreparably damaged. Now scoot!" Phaedon shook his head, it was hard working with clumsy teenagers.
He just noticed the apprentice motioning for him when he looked toward the entrance. Well it looked like he had better come over the boy looked concerned. As he should, Phaedon was in no mood to be bothered. On his approach he realized it was one of the Weyrling riders...Kess.. yes she had a blue. Umm, he thought for a moment, running names through his head. Claralth. Right.
Trying to look more collected than he was he smiled at the Weyrling rider. "Kess, what can I do for you? Claralth is alright I hope." He did start not notice the look on her face at first glance but now he saw a look of desperation there. By Faranth, what could possibly be the matter. Claralth was one of the healthiest in the clutch. Well whatever it was, he was starting to think someone was trying to make his life horribly difficult.

Clar remained stationed on the outside of the small room shared by E'vos and Rovanoth. It was in his nature to be concerned for other dragons more than himself. His eyes whirled a deep orange and he looked in on E'vos. The tall boy was simply staring at his dragon. Clar's eyes fixed on Rovanoths sleeping face.
Kess was still out of breath. Am I really this out of shape? She asked herself. While she waited for the apprentice to track down Master Phaedon. She ran her fingers through her loose hair and composed herself. Her eyes looked about the room around her. It was a busy place, with many apprentices. She hadn't done many chores in the Dragon Infirmary so she wasn't very familiar with the surroundings. Kess remained by the entrance.
The master dragon healer approached her slowly, at first he looked flustered though once he arrived her had seemed to calm down. "Kess, what can I do for you? Claralth is alright I hope." She took in a breath to calm her nerves. "My apologies for my rushed appearance, but I beg you to come with me. There is something wrong with Rovanoth. E'vos is beside himself. He's sleeping and wont wake." She tried to convey the urgency of her visit, but didn't want to seem impatient or rude.

The master dragon healer waited. Hmmm. Rovanoth? He had expected Nisurath to be ill but not Rovanoth. "Luaethi get my bag." The girl ran off towards his office faster than one would have thought possible. "I'm going to bring Luphaed and Luaethi to assist me." He added to Kess so she understood it might take a moment to get everything.
Luaethi returned with the bag and the taller boy that Phaedon had mentioned without having been told he was needed. "Very good. This is an emergency, I expect not to be interrupted." He gave them both very serious looks and then turned back to Kess. "Lead us to him."
Having a dragon would certainly save him time. Or having someone in his arsenal that could speak to all dragons. HAH. That was a laugh. He could not imagine meeting anyne with that capability though it had been recorded that such people had existed.
Phaedon began mumbling to himself not expecting anyone to take any notice. "Not waking up... so strange... maybe he was having trouble eating before this, lack of energy would certainly be explainable then...that begs the question why would a young dragon not eat..." The Dragon Healer was completely in his own world at that point.

Kess made her best attempt to stay out of the two apprentices ways. She didn't know much of what they were doing and didn't want to hinder them in anyway. She felt a little out of place. Her eyes scanned the Dragon Healers face for clues about what could be wrong. She didn't get much out of him. "I'm going to bring Luphaed and Luaethi to assist me." She nodded in understanding.
Before long the three healers were assembled and Phaedon gave her the go ahead to head back. She began the journey at a good pace, checking to make sure that they could keep up with her. The trip back through the weyr felt as though it took forever. Time was moving slower and in her head she couldn't help but to think why the dragon infirmary was so far from the Weyrling Barracks.
They made their way through the main halls, passed the Alpha Wing Weyrs and the Candidate Barracks, then finally to the Weyrling Barracks. She finally let out a deep breath. They were here and could help Rovanoth. She hadn't until now thought about why she was helping E'vos. He had never been particularly nice to her. Infact on several occations he was down right nasty to her. Though it was in her nature to help those who needed it. And perhaps she was who he needed at this time.
She showed the three dragon healers to E'vos' room. She gave a soft knock on the door and looked in to see E'vos exactly where she had left him. Clar nudged her in the side, moving her into the room. She crossed the floor and gently grabbed E'vos by elbow and moved him to the side. "I guess its time to let them have a look." Her voice was soft and soothing, she was making every attempt to keep things calm.

As they entered, Phaedon was more surprised by the youth than the dragon. He'd be almost no good to talk to from the looks of things. "Thank you Kess. I'm going to ask Ev'os a couple questions before I do anything to Rovanoth." The questions came out rapidly, when had he notced something was wrong, how long ago was that, etc.
Ev'os let himself be pulled aside by Kess as he answered the questions. "Well he was not hungry yesterday and when we were finished bathing and oiling he insisted on resting. Since then he has been like this only every moment he's worse."
The dragon was rapidly losing energy. That much as crystal clear. Phaedon was really concerned about the not eating. No food for two days, well that wouldn't kill a dragonet but it would make them weaker and more susceptable to illness. He did an overall exam of the dragon, his growth was progresive. However his body had begun to look more like Nisurath.
Flame it all! They could not afford to lose a Bronze dragon anymore than they could afford to lose a Gold. In fact he refused to lose any of them if he could help it! The day was just getting better and better. Still he had a mission. He would make the dragon better.
"Kess, gather some of the Candidates or drudges, I need a lot of water. Some for Rovanoth to drink. He is dehydrated. Luphaed, go and get my surgical tools, immediately. I think his stomach is blocked, probably caused by some other illness. Luaethi bring me my bag. I need the largesttube we have in there."
There was no way to move the dragon onto his side without rousing him and he would not wake. That would complicate things. "Now Ev'os, you are to remain calm. It would be best if you did not watch. Is there anyone you would like to stay with you during this?" Phaedon was a compassionate person after all.
Ev'os was like stone during the assessment of his Bronze. He could not move or take his eyes away. "No." He could do this alone. Who would want to be around him now? He let down the only creature who could love him for himself.
Even Phaedon could see that if the dragon died the young rider would most likely try to die as quickly as possible. There was a large amount of saliva in the dragon's mouth. His nostrils were clean as were his eyes. No discharge. Somethign had gone wrong very quickly. The poison was the only explaination for it. He had hoped the dragonets would not suffer for it.
Phaedon walked toward the washroom and immediately began to scrub his arms. His daughter, Luaethi, did the same and handed him his surgical apron and gloves. "This is going to take a lot of work." He muttered under his breath. He knew what he was doing but this was going to take candlemarks.

Before the words were completely out of the Master Healers mouth Kess was at the door. She looked back at him. "You've got it." She exploded into the Weyrling Barracks main room and crossed to the Candidate Barracks. There were several candidates just rising for the day. She got their attention. "I need your help. There is an emergancy in the Weyrling Barracks. I need you to gather all of the water buckets, fill them and meet me back here." She watched as they did as she asked. She was surprised that they had listened. When did I get that power? The thought was meant only in passing. Well you have the air of importance. I think they understood that. You should hurry back though. Things are moving quickly.
Moments later she had several candidates assembled, each with one or two buckets of fresh water apiece. She quickly motioned for them to follow her as she turned and headed back down the hall to the Weyrling Barracks. She marched down to the door of E'vos' room. The Candidates stopped at the door. She approached the dragon healer, then motioned for the candidates to file into the room and place their buckets on the floor. "I wasn't sure how much to get, I hope this is enough." She ushered the candidates out of the room. It was crowded with so many of them there. "Stay close, if they need more water I might need to call on you again." She gave them a reassuring smile and popped back into the room.

Surgery was a last resort most of the time, so few dragnhealers were really adept at it. Phaedon however was a multitalented sort of person. There were perhaps one or two others with better skills or the same int he craft but they were not specialized in the young dragons. If Rovanoth were ever going to have a chance to Between later in life this would have to be perfect. There could be no flaw in the mending.
"Perfect Kess, thank you. Now I need quiet." The numbweed he applied around the area he meant to cut was enormous in comparison to what was used on a human. The dragon ichor smelled different to him than was normal. Poison indeed. His stomach was indeed twisted.
Phaedon knew what to do. After long candlemarks of fixing the problem. He looked carefully at the stitching and gave Evalos specific instructions. The dragon was fed through the tube and given water through the tube inserted down his throat.
In time, he should recover, Phaedon hoped.
