Name: E'dian
Age: 31
Rank: WeyrlingMaster
Appearance:
Standing just above six feet, his height alone is hardly impressive. As thin and tough as a whipcord; years of hard labor and bright sun have deeply tanned and sculpted his body. But instead of wearing him down, the steel beneath has been revealed creating in him an austere, elegant appearance. He lacks any major scars or birthmarks, but his tan is often in several shades as he does not tend to shed clothing unless the heat is simply unbearable.
His hair and complexion are his mother’s, in fact there is little of his father in his looks. His hair is a dark, burnished brown, just several shades darker than his dragon’s hide. He keeps it short but it is perpetually unruly and no matter what he does he can never quite seem to tame all the waves. When he spends much time outdoors he gains lighter highlights in the summer but for the most part it stays its uniform bistre.
E’dian stays clean shaven and neat as much as possible though he is far from obsessive about such things. His eyes too are his mother’s a true gray as can be found, they are the color of a storm cloud and have been know to crackle with as much energy. His eyes are unsettling, they express leagues of his unbalanced emotions and most feel uncomfortable looking the man in the face when a mood strikes him. For E’dian, his attractiveness lies not necessarily in his looks, but his personality.
Most often, the rider is found wearing very casual and unmarked clothes as much for reasons of escaping his father’s pride than any real want. His coloration lends to looking best in greens and browns and he has enough taste to know this. Though E’dian is the type of man who “cleans up” very well, the courtier who shows up at gathers and formal events being a far cry from his everyday appearance.
Family:
Father: E’valn (59 turns), rider of Brown Sartoth (1151: Gold Arizith/ Bronze Birath)
Proud and confident, E’valn would be more what is expected in a Bronze rider than a Brown. He is a demanding man, expecting much from those around him and himself. A seeker of perfection, he is a tightly wound coil. Born Earvaln, he has lived his whole life in the Weyr and expects the rest of his family to do so. And in his mind, that is the highest honor a man can achieve while performing in his duties.
Mother: Sahrah (56 turns) Weyr Cook
A dreamer and a passionate woman, Sahrah had a huge impact on E’dian’s life, far more so than his distant father. Despite a coolness between her and her Weyrmate, she and E’valn have stayed loyal to each other for nearly 35 years. She believes strongly in her offspring and her mate and will go to no ends to do what needs to support them.
Sisters:
Parah (40 turns) Weyr Drudge
Much like her mother, Parah loves the simple things in life. Being a surrogate mother has been the highlight of her life and she fosters many of the Weyr’s brats.
Lyrah (30 turns) Weyr Drudge
An extremely quiet individual, unless one bumps into Lyrah she is unlikely to be noticed at all. This is exactly how she likes it, she helps as much as she can with the healing of the dragons and humans of the Weyr, but she lacks the skill to become a full fledged healer.
Brother:
Evalos (20 turns) rider of Bronze Rovanoth (1188: Gold Aliath/Bronze Xialanth)
Wound as tight as his father, Evalos is a stern, arrogant young man. The clear favorite of his father’s offspring he is used to getting the best cut off the meat and has come to expect it. Confrontational and forward, he is a strange mirror opposite of his older brother.
Daughter: Iaslia (15 turns) rider of Gold Nisurath (1188: Gold Aliath/Bronze Xialanth)
Even at her young age, E'dian's precocious daughter has a temper that flares all too often. Prone to getting into trouble, she needs at least two pairs of eyes on her at all times.
Personality:
As tightly wound as his father, E’dian has a brilliance that is recognized by simply looking at him. He is almost teeming with energy, as if he is a magnet. People feel inexorably drawn to him and few can stand to meet his gaze and his company can often make situations uncomfortable. He has a very rare mind and can make complex computations with incredible ease and sees connections most would miss entirely.
A complete opposite from his father, E’dian believes in defying convention and that the traditional way is not always the right way. He makes waves where ever he goes, and is often caught in a dark corner brooding over one hide or another. When he stands, everyone looks, though they are not really sure why and when he runs, people follow. Frustrated by imperfection, he has a drive that is far more like his father than he will ever admit.
Such a strong character as his if mostly either loved or hated, and considering his general lack of social skill it is often the latter. Many wonder and whisper about the man, as he never seems to keep any sort of company with any women. His answer is that he simply does not have the time to bother. E’dian’s responses when anyone can get them are gruff and often limited to less than three words. Although if one can get him to talk about a subject he is passionate about the bronze rider has leagues of knowledge he is willing to share on the subject.
Everything he does is filled with a passion so intense, dealing with the man often feels like dealing with a spring so tight it might break. Though, despite his unusual personality, he has a loyalty matched by very few and if one can befriend the charismatic bronze rider one can be assured that they will have him protecting their back the rest of their life. There is never a doubt in anyone’s mind that E’dian will be where he says he will be or fail to meet a goal he has set.
Hobbies/Skills: Raised to be a leader, E'dian can read, write and do some arithmetic. He has a talent with designing drills, and puzzles of any sort. A mean hand at dragon poker, E'dian has a sharp and unpredictable mind.
Pets: Bronze Firelizard -Flint
A hatchling, Flint has already show a precocious and excitable nature and weather or not he can be trained has yet to be seen.
History:
He was never the son his father wanted, but his mother doted on him. E’dian was born on a wildly stormy night and his mother blames the wild blizzard that night for the bronzerider’s unique personality. Born Eradian, he was a trial from the start; his older sister, Parah also took a large role in raising her younger brother. At first, he was the pride and joy of his father, but when he learned to speak before he could walk and then to read, E’valn began to grow distant from his oldest son. Luckily; Sahrah, his mother and Parah, his sister, gave the boy much to occupy him as he grew.
Despite the hoards of Weyrbrats, Eradian always stuck to himself or to Parah’s side. Though he often found himself the champion of his quiet younger sister Lyrah. Their father was a distant figure, always there in an emergency, but treating his offspring with duty and little love. The boy found he had to grow up fast and he got into many fights, he won his fair share and also lost about as frequently and his brooding personality really began to form.
He spent much time with the Weyr’s Harper and with any visiting craftsmen; his mother always encouraged this time, believing strongly in the boy’s education. Eradian spent many hours exploring the Weyr or bothering her visiting craftsmen, often nearly offending them with his easy grasp of nearly any concept. Sahrah began to introduce the boy to strategy, pushing him towards the tutelage of the Weyr’s bronze riders and Ean soaked it all up.
Being a Weyrbrat as he was and the son of a respected brown rider, Eradian became a candidate at a very young age; his ever present mother pushing him forwards once again. For five years he stood at hatchings and never Impressed. The young man began to sink inwards, his off balance personality seemingly not suited to a dragon’s. But in that time only one other bronze had hatched; although the son of a brown rider, Era had decided early on that a bronze was not to be his.
In his seventeenth year, Era stood at what he decided was going to be his last Hatching. Third to hatch was a magnificent bronze, and as if drawn by an line, Xialanth made straight for Eradian. In that moment he became another being entirely, known now as E’dian and flopping bronze wings and legs known as Xialanth.
The pair made a brilliant if unconventional path through Weyrlinghood. E’dian ceased to get into fights and his charisma flared to life, buoyed by the love of the bronze. He dove into his studies and lessons with a fervor few could match and they graduated with flying colors. And as full members of the fighting force the pair quickly advanced and it was not long before E’dian became Weyrsecond. His brilliant and unconventional tactics lending to a whole new sort of thread fighting.
Now he has become the latest to hold the title of Weyrleader at Ponaa and many wonder if the enigmatic man is capable of keeping the position. But even through the threats and dire rumors circulating around the Weyr, everyone is looking to the newest weyrlings of Aliath's first clutch.
Dragon Info:
Name: Xialanth
Age: 15 turns
Color: Bronze
Appearance:
Xialanth is an absolute beauty of a dragon. His hide is a bright, almost coppery bronze, which darkens only slightly around his joints and belly. Xia is not quite as large as a bronze can get, standing from nose to tail tip 59 feet long.
Perfectly proportioned, he is the dragon that is idolized in paintings and tapestries. His wings are wide and chest deep, this dragon is all stamina and power. His arching neck and tapered face have many, many Greens fawning over him.
Thread scaring has not yet touched his hide and E’dian always keeps him oiled and in perfect condition, taking as much pride in Xia’s appearance as the dragon does. Slightly leggy and long in neck and tail give him a sleek, almost feminine appearance. But being a bronze as he is, there is no doubting Xialanth’s masculinity.
Personality:
In all things, Xia is a prankster; the bronze seems to have a perpetual good humor despite his rider’s tendency to moodiness. Really like the famed knights of old earth; he likes nothing better than to drip honeyed compliments over a gold and can't understand why it bothers his rider so much. Always a willing listener, Xia has a habit of acquiring if not spreading gossip that runs through the Weyr’s dragons.
Like most bronzes, he has a stubborn pride and is quite convinced females should and do fall over themselves on a regular basis in order to gaze and drool over him. Even if they don’t he is fairly sure they do in private, after all drooling in public can be quite embarrassing. In the air he prides himself on his skill and agility and has the speed and dexterity of a dragon half his size. And if he is bested in skill it seems often Xia can win any contest through sheer force of will.
History:
The brown was first, they always were first when there weren't any bronzes in a clutch. Eradian shifted from foot to foot, wanting to be anywhere else. The glamor of the Hatching was nearly lost on him today, it would be only one more failure to face E’valn with. Mother would chide him, he should think of the man as his father, but he never could. A blue hatched amid much noise and then the Brown impressed and the crowd roared. With thoughts thoroughly interrupted, Eradian turned angry, grey eyes to the Queen and her hatching eggs.
Then –he- hatched. A bronze with flare and attitude right out of the shell. Limp, wet wings beat against the air as the young beast tried to move forward. Eradian stood spellbound as the wet, proud creature marched resolutely forward. The bronze butted the boy’s chest and sent him sprawling backwards on the ground. Whirling eyes caught the startled, wide eyes of Eradian’s and time stopped.
I am Xialanth, you are not alone any longer.
As seemingly brilliant as his rider, the bronze had quite a lighter heart and the pair sped through their Weyrling training with ease. They graduated in two turns and E’dian was promoted to Weyrsecond by the time Xialanth was eight. Now that they second Alpha with the same passion, brilliance and unconventional attitude that they have displayed their whole lives.
When young Aliath rose for the first time, it was Xialanth who caught her, hurtling his rider into the position of Weyrleader. Grasping the reins tightly, E'dian has so far proved capable of handling the position, if not entierly capable of handling the new Weyrwoman.
