Whether there was any doubt in the mind of the rider of a dragon that his was the best was beside the point. That dimglow deserved to die for what he had said about Rovanoth. Only half a dragon! PAH! “I'll kill him.” Rovanoth might not have believed him but for the murderous tone in his voice. He is not even worth the trouble. Better to let him live with the fact he could never ride a Bronze, let alone one as clever and strong as I am.
Ev'os had become almost overly sensitive to comments made about Rovanoth since the dragon's near death. He could not and would not live without him. “Well, if you feel it would be better, then I'll let that son of a wherry live.” I do. You remembered to ask Claralth about lessons today yes? Of course. It is nice to know that Claralth never forgets things. He is a well bred blue, being from my clutch how could he not be? “Your arrogance seems to exceed even my own sometimes.” Ev'os grinned as they walked toward the feeding grounds. The supplies for the Weyrling dragons were set aside.
Just after sunrise the sun shone brightly with a light almost imperceptable warm breeze. The grasses on the Feeding growns had changed from bright green to brown with green patches over the warm season. “Try not to eat as much as yesterday. Master Phaedon would not be pleased if you hurt yourself from overeating.” Nor would I. Not after he said if I stretched my hide too quickly the stitching would become uneven and I would never be allowed to Between fly. Rider of mine, you are not concerned of this are you? I have the best Bronze in the Weyr and I will make sure that you are in the perfect condition to fly whenever you want wherever you want.
The Bronze, contented with his rider's words began to eat. If Ev'os was doubtful of his promise, he kept it to himself. Sometimes the people with the strongest minds impressed to dragons with the most difficult obstacles because only they could handle the trouble that would beset them. “Perhaps we can even join Beta wing and compete in Weyr games against my brother.” And Xialanth.

Kesstriel strode along Claralths side. He was making good time on his way to the feeding grounds. "You really should slow down." Her breath was getting the better of her. Why? You are keeping up just fine. He glanced back at her as she took a jogging step to gain some ground. Besides I am hungry. She stifled a laugh, which was more hidden in her deep breathing. The morning had been busy, an early bathing and oiling followed by a nap for Claralth and lessons for Kess. Now at mid-day things were bright and the Weyr was in full swing. It wasn't a surprise to see several of the weyrlings out for a feeding.
In Clar's haste he had caught up with rather large bronze, the only bronze from his clutch to be exact. It seems that Rovanoth is doing better. Yes, it does seem that way. Rovanoth along with his rider E'vos were now just a few paces ahead. Close enough for Kess to catch the tail end of his statement. "... Weyr games against my brother.” Flying on their weyrlings was still some time off, however he had a point, when they were old enough and in their perspective wings there was much to look forward to. Kess was most interested in going Between and seeing the world from the air. She could practically feel the wing on her cheeks. Oh wait, that was the actual breeze. She grinned. "You know I'm sure the competition with be something fierce." Her voice held it usual laugh. She grinned.
She hadn't really spoken to E'vos since Rovanoths near... she gained the slightest chill, but it was gone in mere moments. She didn't even want to think of it. She glanced at the bronze. He seemed in fine for now, and by the look of him, his appetite had indeed returned. Claralth slowed as to not pass the bronze. The size difference was apparent, Clar, with his good size for a blue, seemed down right little beside the bronze.

At the sound of another human's voice, Ev'os spun on his heel. You great wherry. It's Claralth and Kess. Better snag them now for our wing. They would be good for the games too. Although they had been quite serious a few moment's before the dragon's tone held a bit of humor so that Ev'os had to stiffle a remark in order to respond to Kess.
“It is a good way to see who has been practicing more and training harder and who needs work, though honestly I think we just want to prove we are better than the Weyrleader.” Or maybe it was more personal than that but it was not something he would discuss with Kess. She did not need to know more about the family issues than she already knew from Iaslia. “He says you should join our wing because it will be the best.” You are putting words in my mind again. We've been through this. You relay only what I wish you to relay. of course, oh high and mighty one.
“Claralth looks well.” He stated though perhaps he should have asked how the blue was. When it came to etiquette it was not that Ev'os did not know right and wrong but rather that he did not care to make himself act correctly. He was who he was whether society dictated it that way or not. Kess did not seem to be one to stand on proprieties.

“He says you should join our wing because it will be the best.” She grinned at this statement. "Well, thank you. Though I am sure whichever wing the two of you end up with, will be that much better for it." She was sincere. Rovanoth had proven to be strong, while E'vos she had always known would prove to be useful. “Claralth looks well.” The dragons eyes whirled a brilliant blue/green, he gazed at the bronze rider then at the bronze. It is good to see you well Rovanoth, I suspect yours is taking top notch care. "Thank you again E'vos, it is good to see Rovanoth has made such a quick recovery."
She scanned the dragon quickly. His hide was such a rich color. He seemed twice the dragon she had seen in E'vos' weyr. "How splendid he looks." She caught up to the tall boy, Claralth striding at her side. She rested a hand on his shoulder, his dark blue hide was warm under her touch.

"We do try to be the best, don't we?" He said aloud though the dragon was much too busy eating what was before him to comment on something like that. Of course he was the best. "I don't suppose that there is any way to stop the gossip that is going around about him not flying. Phaedon says because he is so young it should heal up to the point where the hide should be able to endure Between conditions. "
He was taking it about as good as could be expected. Every time he caught one of them talking about Rovanoth as if he were not as great a Bronze as any other, he got angry. "He's going to start participating in lessons again now and in a couple months we are going to test out that area on his hide in cold temperatures, to see how sensitive it is." A long way off but they needed to prepare.
He is. I chose well. You and yours seem well. Lessons should be interesting today. His only concern really was eating and sleeping though Ev'os concerned him when he got angry with drudges. "Don't mind Rovanoth, he is all about eating right now." Food is good. But not too much food.

Claralth, who in his short life never really needed help eating, dove head long into his meal. Oh I agree, food is good. Kess stifled a laugh. The two dragons had healthy appetites. "Returning to lessons, that will be good." She stroked the back of the blues neck. "Things have been moving so slowly, which is probably because I can't wait to start flying." She grinned. It was probably the most exciting aspect of being a rider for her. Not to mention getting the chance to see the world beyond the Weyr.
She glanced over to Rovanoth, "Well I certainly hope his hide heals well." She looked more closely at the scarred patch. She was in no way a dragon healer so really her opinion would count for nothing. "Hey, hey slow down the two of you." Sometimes it bothered her how little Claralth chewed his food. They really were like children. She scratched lightly down his neck again. "Theres plenty of time." She grinned.

Rovanoth did not feel it necessary to answer. The dragon seemed to be ignoring his earlier statement so Ev'os looked over at him with a raised eyebrow. The Bronze noted his rider's glance and knew he needed to make sure he was not eating more than he should. I think I am done now. I hope you are. You ate quite a bit more than yesterday. Master Phaedon said I could eat more every day. I intend to do just that. Good grief, what have I gotten myself into?
"Things always move slowly in lessons. They want to make sure we do not make mistakes so they ram the most mundane details into our heads. Its going to be a long turn before we get on the backs of our dragons. Lucky for them they get to fly sooner than we do." Ev'os replied, knowing it sounded a bit childish but he really would rather skip the boring crap and head straight to the important stuff. Weyr etiquette was wasted on people like himself.
"Yeah, Master Phaedon seems to think it will. I certainly think so. Rovanoth refuses to think that it could do otherwise. He is the best Bronze at the Weyr." Ev'os knew that remark would get Rovanoth's attention. The Bronze nudged his shoulder in a seemingly gentle way but the dragon had no real idea of his strength. "Careful."

...best Bronze at the Weyr." The blue hadn't gone through nearly as much meat as the bronze, though he did make a fair dent."Well was no doubt there." She grinned playing into E'vos' ego, and Rovanoths as well. That was filling. The blue leaned against his rider and closed his eyes. "Sometimes they dont know their own strength." She scratched his eye ridges gently.
Kess was eager for the lesson ahead though. Even if the subject matter was boring it was still one step closer to eventually getting to fly, and fight, and well compete in weyr games. "Yes but I guess the boring stuff is nessecary for making us the best riders we can be." Her eyes were toward the sky. The sun shown brightly and heat of it kissed her face. "What I wouldn't give for a breeze." She sighed and looked back at the pair, then grinned again.

A pleased smirk wore on Nanyaa's lips as she walks Niddalath down the stairs to the feeding grounds. Her brother had decided to a company them, early morning seemed to be the easiest time for them to meet up. While she knows he would not admit it, Navace also enjoyed getting to see the dragons up close. As they approached she could see Rovanoth and Claralth seem to be helping themselves as their riders converse.
Are you going to say anything? No, I shall acknowledge them, they are having a conversation. The brown lets out a loud snort as he makes his way over to help himself. With a slight head nod she motions for her brother to follow. Leaving the other two weyrlings to their discussion.

Not realizing how much he had missed time with his sister, this morning had taken an unexpected turn for the best for Navace. He still was not used to being around Niddalath but that would come with time, he could sense the bond the two of them shared and deep down it made him jealous for the time he no longer got to spend with her.
Noticing her motion forward he nods to her and follows, curious to see where the rest of the morning will go.

They were being better than usual and that was all anyone could really ask of Ev'os and Rovanoth. So far he had not managed to make anyone upset. Kess and Claralth were of course on their good side right now, any other person may not have received a nice greeting or a greeting at all. “Never any doubt in my mind.” Ev'os said of the Bronze being the best at the Weyr. All riders believed that of their dragons but it was nice to have it reaffirmed by another human.
“Yes in his mind that was gentle. Its hard to explain how much stronger they are.” Rovanoth nudged him more softly. “Better.” More like a tap than a nudge and I'm not even full grown. Humans must be very weak indeed. He said it for both his rider and Claralth to hear. The Bronze turned his head slightly to see the brown approaching with his rider and a boy who had not impressed. He had not been worthy of one such as himself though perhaps another dragon would fancy him in the next clutch.
Ev'os noted that Nanyaa had nodded and tried to be equally civil by nodding back. A woman on a brown, it was unnatural to say the least. A blue he could understand. It had happened before, not in his own lifetime but it was recorded to have happened before. Browns never impressed women. The look on his face was not disgust but it was not respectful either.
He obviously did not like the quiet young woman or her brother. A boy who seemed out shined by his twin sister. Ev'os would feel bad only Navace never seemed to stand up for himself, letting her fight for him. He didn't deserve to be the boy. Perhaps thats why Niddalath had chosen his sister over him. He had to keep in a private chuckle. If Iaslia were here Nanyaa and Navace would be in for it.

The little blue rider was comfortable, leaning against her dragon. I like to think of them as weak only in body. Their minds are another matter entirely. She ran her hand down his neck ridge. She glanced up in time to see a dragon and two humans appear in the distance. Clar let out a low rumble of greeting to the brown Niddalith. Kess shot a quick wave to Nanyaa and her twin brother Navace.
It was interesting to see the two together now, after the impression. Kess wondered about their relationship, what it would be like to have a sibling that is so close. Yes she had younger siblings though she wasn't particularly close to them, she cared for them but was sure it wasn't the same as having a twin brother or sister. "Hello you two." She grinned, though she didn't know the boy well at all, she had come to favor his sister and her brown.

Niddalath let out an quick rumble before diving into one of the buckets, not bothering to wait for Nanyaa. Nanyaa had slowed down eying the other pair of riders, something about the way Ev'os was looking at her just rubbed her wrong. The look was hard to discribe, but she just had the urge to knock it off his face. While she never really got to know Ev'os or his bronze, she did not really want to either something about his personality was just smothering.
Then there was Kess, smiling happily giving her and Navace a cheerful wave. Kesstriel was something else entirely, it was hard not to be endeared to her at least a little. A slight blush warms Nanyaa's face as she returns the wave. Claralth and Rovanoth looked like they were doing well as she scans them attempting to avert her eyes for a moment from Kess'.
Softly she points out the other dragons to her brother, "That's Ev'os and Rovanoth, he seems to be doing better thankfully... and Claralth is Kess'. Are they not amazing in color?" Niddalath lets out a playful snort in between mouthfuls and side steps slightly to nudge Nanyaa with his side. oh stop, you know I think your glorious too. The brown just goes back to chomping down, Nanyaa smirks up at her brother for a moment before taking a step forward to reply to Kess.
"Hey there..." She kept the smirk, it was the closest thing to a smile she could manage with out feeling to awkward. She pulls down the sleeves of her shirt, even with the heat Nanyaa still wore only her long sleeved shirts and slacks. Uncomfortable she defaults to glancing at her brother before checking on Niddalath's progress in eating. "Your actually hungry today... go figure... leave some for the little ones... geez..."
