Nanyaa found herself often in her free time heading out towards the empty stables. There no one would bother her if she decided to practice sword play or just needed to scream. Sometimes the best way to let everything out to stay calm at all other times is to just let everything out and scream. Anywhere closer people would notice or be worried or try to find out why, here no one hears. Or at least no one seems to have yet.
Carrying a wooden practice sword over one shoulder she casually makes her way past the stables and hops over what's left of an old fence and into the middle of an unused pasture. Leveling the weapon in front of her, the girl takes a few long, deep breaths before letting out a blood curling scream and taking a wide over head swing at nothing. Then spins having the sword follow the motion upwards.
Not really paying attention to anything else she just concentrates on her motions, keeping them quick and short. Only once in awhile taking a broad forceful swing, letting out a loud cry with each one. Her movements are graceful yet unskilled. Nanyaa has done such things for quiet some time now finding sword play to be relaxing, however so far she has found no one willing to teach a very young girl the finer points of blade fighting. Apparently something was odd about a girl of only fourteen turns with a deadly weapon.

Somadin stood on the tips of his toes as he looked into the next pail upon the shelf. There had to be some nails somewhere in the stables; shouldn’t there be? With a sigh, he pushed the pail back. Perhaps he should just go straight to the blacksmith, though the huge man was intimidating to little Somadin. Putting his hands on his hips, he looked around the empty stables again, hoping for some clue as to where they were hiding what he was searching for.
The blood curling scream sent the small boy jumping through the air, however, as it came so suddenly. Spinning around and pushing his back against a wall, it took him a minute to realize it had come from outside. Hesitantly, Somadin moved toward the stable doors and stepped outside. To his surprise, the face he found on the other side of the pasture fence was a familiar one.
Like Somadin, Nanyaa had grown up in the Weyr and the two had even been candidates together for the last hatching. The difference, however, was obvious in the full eight inches the girl had on little Somadin despite the fact that Somadin was almost a turn older than her. That, and of course the fact that she had impressed while Somadin had not.
Moving to the fence, he climbed onto the first rail and leaned over the top a moment to watch her swings with the sword. Despite having grown up in the crèche together, the two had never truly talked before. With the sword in her hand and the loud cries she made with each swing, however, Somadin hesitated initiating the conversation. After a long moment, he finally found some courage.
“Hi Nanyaa.” He said, just loud enough to be heard. He didn’t, after all, want to surprise her to the point of swinging on him.

Taking a deep breath again she starts into another open swing when she hears, "Hi Nanyaa" and freezes. Someone was behind her, she wasn't alone. How long had they been watching? Trying not to blush to badly, being thankful her skin was slightly darker then most others she straightens up some and slowly looks over her shoulder. A Candidate she had gone to classes with, what was his name. She really needed to actually start paying attention to others, no wait Somadin. He got picked on a lot she recalled, just like her brother.
"Hey... Somadin... w... what are you doing out here... I um... did not realize anyone came out here still..." Letting the practice sword come to rest on her right shoulder she attempts to straighten her long sleeved black shirt, mostly in attempt to look as casual as possible. Not wanting to let on how much the boy had surprised her. Though she was glad it was one of the weyr boys, they are easy to handle, just talk to them and if they get out of line just beat them up. Though she doubted Somadin would do anything like that, he made her twin seem aggressive. Girls, well for whatever reason that was never easy for Nanyaa, so of all the people that could have caught her out here, she was content it was him.

Somadin watched her straighten her sleeves and rest her sword on her shoulder, he relaxed. At her words, he let out a heavy sigh and finished climbing to the top rung of the fence. Swinging his legs over he sat down and kicked his feet as he looked at the ground. “I was looking for some nails…” he said, almost guiltily.
Looking up again he decided to give a fuller explaination. “See I’m trying to make some necklaces, but I have to be able to put a hole in the pendant. I tried a sewing needle, but it wouldn’t puncture threw so I thought maybe a nail would work…”
Letting his words trail off, he tilted his head as he looked at the weyrling. “Where’s your dragon? And what are you doing out here and with a sword? I thought sword practice was for guards and adult riders.”
Now he really was curious. Sure she was taller than he was but quite a bit, but she was still younger and he knew he was certainly not allowed by anybody to take up such a practice. Did anyone else knew she had a sword? And where did she get the sword in the first place? The questions ran through his mind, but he bit his tongue to keep from spitting out too many at once.

Taken aback by his sudden interest in her doings she just looks at the wooden sword and blinks a few time. Was it really that big of a deal? It is not like she has one of her father's metal ones. "Niddalath is resting... I come out here often just to relax... this is one of my Father's practice swords... my brother and I used to practice with them... well I guess I did and he blocked the best he could... um... what does it matter?"
Her brow furrows as she flips the sword down letting the wooden blade sink in to the dirt a little and crosses her arms at Somadin. Is he really going to lecture her too? So she was not your typical girl why must everyone have something to say about it? Obviously annoyed she just stares at the boy waiting to see how he responds.

The young female brownrider (such a strange concept in itself) was obviously bothered, or angered… Yeah… She’s defiantly angry now… Somadin decided. Frowning, he kicked his feet from the top of the fence nervously as he looked at the ground rather than at the girl.
“I… I was just curious Nanyaa. I didn’t mean to make you angry…” Looking up, Somadin winced visibly as he seen the obvious annoyance in her face. Quickly looking down again, he added, “I won’t tell nobody I promise. Since its your daddy’s sword I don’t think you’d get in trouble for it anyways…” The last thing little Somadin wanted to do was to anger anybody – especially a girl who had enough fight in her to impress a brown… No, he never meant to make her angry.
