Water flew in all directions, scintillating beads of light sparkling in the warm southern sun. Alimeth flapped midnight blue wings against the lightening sky. He daintily settled back down on the ground beside the lake and turned whirling eyes on his now thoroughly soaked rider.
You look good that way. J'sian snorted and pulled off his shirt, exposing a work hardened body to the rapidly warming air. It was the beginning of the dry season and the temperature was always hot. The middle of the day was worst, it was best to seek shelter within the cool rocks of the Weyr then.
The not-so-impressively tall rider thumped Alimeth's shoulder with his fist and looked over the dragon approvingly. The oil had brought a nice sheen to the blue's hide and despite the short rations at the Weyr, hunting him out in the jungle had its benefits. Alimeth was sleek and as fit as any dragon could be. You are well too, for a rider. That green now...
Laughing aloud, J'sian thumped the blue's shoulder again. "You are always thinking about the greens." Well, you are always thinking about their riders. "Very well played my heart. Very well played indeed." Both rider and dragon regarded each other with a level of affection that could never happen in any other sort of bond, and they were completely oblivious to the world around them.

High on a ridge above the lake, a smaller then usual brown sunned himself. His rider, A'rik, moved silently along the sand by the lake. His feet padded along in the soft sand. Oh this is going to be great... watch
He crept along the edge of the water, moving slowly until he was behind his friend. J'sian and his blue Alimeth. He motioned, pressing his finger to his lips, imitating a shhh. You know his going to see you
Slowly he made his way up behind J'sian, before his pounced. Striking at his friends shoulders and landing him in the sand. He rolled over, letting a howl of laughter free. I told you that would be fantastic!!

Um You might want to.... J'sian went flying forward, to be flattened out on the sand like a flat bread at a gather. The air went out of his lungs in a tremendous whoosh. ... Look out.
"Thank you Ali, for that very prompt warning." The blue's rider sputtered and spit out sand as his dragon tilted his head to look at him with only mild concern. J'sian rolled back the other way with a fighter's grace and crouched, getting a good look at his erstwhile attacker.
"Ah. A'rik. I should have known that lousy excuse for a tackle to be yours." His dark eyes glittered challengingly and Alimeth tilted his head in a rather prim expression. It was hardly mild. You have a lot of sand in your mouth. Oh hush! Don't let him know that.
The blue looked upwards and rumbled a quiet hello to the brown up on the ridge. At least dragons stopped fooling around like that after Weyrlinghood. Alimeth huffed and glanced back down at the two riders. You don't look so good covered in sand. All J'sian could do was laugh and wipe some of the sand off his face.

The antics of the rider only mildly annoyed the petite green as she deposited her rider before her daily swim. Good morning, children, said the green, fanning her blue-green wings as she settled into the water. Mine, be careful. They might throw you in the sand as well.
I'en snorted and rolled his eyes. Let them try. With that, the older green rider turned to the younger riders and smirked, shaking his head. "Enjoying your morning?" he said as he approached. "Or are you two fighting already?"
The younger generation never ceased to amuse him. Yet in the back of his mind, he remembered doing such things with Callen when he was bathing Ytaisuth. Ah, what it would be like... But no matter. Sand wrestling would hurt now.

A'rik rolled over in the sand letting out a howl of laughter. I told you that would be awesome. He grinned at J'sian. "Hey.... that was a perfectly good tackle. thank you very much."
Yes, A'rik, every entertaining. His tone was mocking. Pan let a low rumble of greeting down to Alimeth.
At about now the petite green Ytaisuth dropped in with her rider. I'en. Pan offered another low greeting rumble from his ridge. "Enjoying your morning?" said I'en, "Or are you two fighting already?"
"Good morning I'en. Isn't it lovely our." A'rik leaned back in the sand. Enjoying the sun.

J'sian snorted and shook his head, good naturedly. "Fighting, are you kidding? A'rik wouldn't stand a chance." Alimeth fluttered his wings and moved slightly to the side in courtesy to the Green. The blue echoed Pantoth's greeting and dipped his head, arching his neck in a way that made some of the greens swoon.
His rider arched an eyebrow at the display Alimeth was putting on and then looked back at I'en and A'rik with a broad grin. His dragon was showing off and he was shirtless, why was he always shirtless... Because you like to show off too. Oh, that's right.
While his rider couldn't help but laugh, Alimeth settled his midnight wings back against his side and kept his neck arched as he regarded Ytaisuth. Children? I could fly circles around you. His tone was light, but a blatant challenge and J'sian laughed once more.

Ytaisuth responded to the brown with a soprano trill typical to a green. Then she began the process of preening, looking rather like a bird as she covered herself in water, shook, then began to push away dirt and smudge from her wings. She paused to glance up at the blue, then snorted, though her attitude was good-natured.
Circles, hm? We shall have to see, young one. After I am done with my bath, maybe, and after Mine comes over to help. Privately, she added, Really, Mine, you do need a bath.
Thanks.
He nodded at the brown rider, then glanced at the sky. "It could rain. Enjoy the sun while it lasts." A giggle from Ytaisuth. "As far as a fight between you two goes, I'm not sure who to bet on. It's an even split."
Don't continue, you're being cruel.
Again, thanks.

Oh well look at you there, showing off for the lady Pan gave a rumble of laughter. Privetly Fool A'rik stiffled a laugh.
"Well in a fight, I think I would rather fight on the same side as J'sain here." He jokingly cowered away from the man. He then stretched his arms up, resting his head in his hands.
His green eyes gazed up into the sky. He listened to the spashing of the water, and the slow breathing of the dragons. He closed his eyes.

The bluerider straightened with a grin and placed his hands on his hips; quite satisfied with A'rik's statement. "Darn right. I could take both of you and not break a sweat. Luckily for you two, we are on the same side." All bluster, his dark eyes danced with mischief.
Alimeth dipped his head, eyes swirling blue with amusement. The large blue looked up to Pantoth and mrred. Why not? I have much to show off. He glanced back to the preening green with as close to a grin as a dragon could manage. Which was to say, not very close at all. And I would be happy to show you any time.
J'sian lifted his head to look at the blue and leaned back against Alimeth's foreleg. "Don't you get into any trouble my dear." The dragon looked down at his rider with familiar affection. Me? Trouble? "Yes you, rouge." Alimeth rumbled again with amusement.

I'en chuckled and folded his arms. "I'm not a fighter. I'm a scholar. The only thing Tai and I will ever go at is Thread." He shrugged. "Although you never know. Some folk can get violent. If I'm in trouble, I'll be sure to find one of you." There was a hint of sarcasm in his tone, almost as if he was mocking them. But it was good-natured teasing, nothing more.
Ytaisuth snorted at I'en, then turned her attention back to the blue. Why thank you, Pantoth. I'll take that lady comment as a compliment. She then folded her wings, arching her neck delicately. Show me, hm? I would love to see sometime. Perhaps we could also get something productive out of it. You know how Mine is: always searching for benefits.

A'rik relaxed on the sand, his eyes remained closed for a while. He was content in the sun when a thought popped into his mind. That odd feeling of forgetting something but not being able to remember what it was. Think A'rik... think.... It was no use. Whatever he was missing had to wait. He opened his eyes and looked up at the clear blue of the sky.
"...I'll be sure to find one of you." A'rik opened an eye to look at I'en. He grinned. "You be sure to do that." His good natured sense of humor was showing.
