Somadin had rolled over that morning to gently untangle the little blue flit from his hair. Sitting up quietly, he had discovered something that had left him speechless. Having pulled on his breeches, he pulled them up to his waist to tie them and found his ankles showing bare below. Wide eyed he had lowered his breeches to cover the ankles and found them now too low up top to tie where they would stay on his narrow hips. Had he… No, no he couldn’t have. He was little Somadin, destined to be stuck at a meager 5 feet tall and even that debatable.
Yet as he pulled his breeches back to where they would have normally sat, he found his ankles showing at the bottom again. Holding his breath, he quickly pulled them off completely and rummaged in his small trunk till he found his other two hand-me-down pairs and pulled one on. That too left his ankles showing. Down and up again just to double check, he soon took off that pair of breeches and grabed the last one he owned. Pulling it up, his breath was caught as these too showed his ankles down at the bottom.
Unable to explain the mystery, he finally tied off a pair and looked for a shirt. Pulling on the first baggy shirt he could find, he tucked it in and offered the now awake little blue the opening of the neck. The blue blinked at him and yawned before showing Somadin a picture of his own shoulder. That left Somadin smiling silly. Not only had he possibly grown a little bit, but it seems the shy little blue finally wanted to see more of the world than the inside of his own shirt.
Accommodating the little blue onto his shoulder, Somadin crept his way out of the male candidate barracks and into the common room wondering who he should tell first… Or maybe he should ask if he really was any taller first before he assumed anything. After all, the pride that was slowly filling the small teenager was a rare thing and it left him as nervous as it left him excited. He had to find someone… Really anyone would do, he just needed to know he wasn’t still in his bunk dreaming.

There were very few mornings that Caselo was not one of the first Candidates up and about. He had already been to his first chore of the day had breakfast, took a bath and come back to the Barracks. That being said his blonde hair was still moist making the air seem cooler than it was. He walked into the Barracks without at first seeing Somadin as he was in his own head.
Then he looked down and saw something blue move. "What the... oh, hi Somadin. " He smiled. "I see your firelizard is coming out of his shell." No pun intended there he almost added. Then tried to figure out what was on the boy's mind. The arrival of the clutch had them all a little excited so he had no doubt that Somadin was worrying about it.
Caselo was not always one to notice things but the more he looked at Somadin the more he wondered if the boy owned anything that fit his legs. Actually the past few days it seemed the pants didn't fit quite right on the small boy. If he had asked Caselo the older boy would certainly have found some clothes for him that fit. Maybe Somadin was so caught up in the clutch he had not really noticed. How to say something without sounding rude?
The older boy ran his hand through his hair, not caring that he had just made the damp mess of sandy hair look worse. "Going through a growth spurt?" He asked casually. A long long time ago he had gone through them and it was awful. Outgrowing one's favorite clothes and having to find new ones was irritating. This was especially true of shoes.

Seeing Caselo walk into the barracks with his hair wet, Somadin wondered how he could wake so early so easily. It wasn’t a question he put to voice, however, more of a personal observation. Hearing the mention of the little blue, Somadin blushed and looked at the little lizard clutching hold of his shoulder and shirt. The little claws hurt a little, but it was almost reassuring to feel his weight on his shoulder.
“Yeah, I guess he’s ready to have a look around…” Even as Somadin spoke, the little blue stretched out its neck toward Caselo and gave the air a tentative sniff. At the mention of a growth spurt, Somadin found himself almost too afraid to ask if he had heard the larger boy correctly. Looking down at his ankles once more, he looked back up with one of the goofiest smiles on his face.
“Do you really think I might finally be growing?” he answered back with a question, nearly bouncing at the idea. Caselo asking about his height was all Somadin’s excitement needed as a confirmation. He HAD grown some!! Oh it was almost too good to be true…. Quickly he stepped closer to Caselo, grabbing his hand and tugging on it “Quick quick, pinch me! I have to make sure I’m not dreaming!”
His excitement and sudden movement left the little blue squawking and the timid blue decided it wasn’t quite time to be outside of the shirt as he slid back into it quickly. Somadin found himself laughing at the little blue and the situation, but he still looked up at Caselo with a mixture of seriousness and excitement. “Please, just wake me up if I’m dreaming okay? I thought I’d never grow any taller.”

The blue seemed to be okay with him which was fine. Caselo could not imagine owning one himself. He had nothing against pets but firelizards took a lot of patience. Watching the blue he decided the little things were shy, too shy for him. He had so many friends and with being outgoing himself he could not see himself owning a firelizard. More power to the smaller boy for trying to take one under hand.
He supposed it was good for some people to have them. Probably not people who rode dragons though. Raising a brow at the blue's sudden slip back into hiding he wondered if Somadin and the blue were alike in more ways. At least Somadin seemed happy for once instead of being depressed about not impressing. Caselo could not comment though, he too had given into a darker side of himself and wallowed in self misery.
Contagious as it was, Caselo felt his lips drawing upwards in a smile to match the other boy's growing excitement. “Sure, boys can start growing at different times. You are just a late bloomer. I promise.” As the boy requested he pinch him, Caselo laughed, loud as ever and said, “I'll prove it that you've grown. How high was your head on me last time we talked?” There was an obvious reference to height and it was not possible for Caselo to be shrinking. Or at least he hoped there was not.

Somadin listened carefully to Caselo’s question and gave the answer his undivided attention. Taking a step back, he stuck his tongue out of one side of his mouth and gave the taller boy a calculating look up and down. Giving the look several moments, he finally drew his tongue back in and took a step forward, and a broad smile crept across his face.
“When I looked directly at you, my eyes would have fallen here.” He said, putting his finger on Caselo’s chest on the lower part of his pecks. “But now, when I look at you, my eyes come to here.” He said, putting a finger from his other hand a good inch and a half above the first.
Looking up at the larger boy who was still a good 8 and ½ inches taller than him, Somadin smiled widely. “Your right Caselo! I am getting taller!” Stepping back and looking down at his ankles, he wiggled his toes. “I think I need to figure out where to get some longer pants, my ankles look goofy…” he let out a happy laugh.

Somadin was contemplating what he had said, the older boy could see that. As he was looked over he smiled. There was always some way to get a truth across to someone. He was only too happy to help the small boy. The excitement was only growing now causing Caselo to laugh at the boy's enthusiasm. "Now you believe your own eyes... as if your pants would lie." He looked down at the next topic of conversation.
Somadin was right about one thing, they did look goofy. The older Candidate was not surprised that Somadin did not know where to get new clothes. Most people had their foster parents help them with that. Going to the Headwoman was always an option but Caselo had a better, faster way for Somadin.
"We can not have you looking like that at lessons. I can help you get new pants." Hopefully his foster would not mind him volunteering her services. He was sure she would like Somadin even if he got into some trouble with her for assumming she had the time and energy. Not that he could not sweet talk his way out of trouble easily, which he could do.
"Nothing of mine at the moment will fit you obviously however, my foster mother fostered many children and raised her own children too. I am sure she has something that will fit. If not she can always make longer pants shorter with some sewing. Maybe even get you a pair that are a little longre so that you'll have something for when you grow again."
