Recruitment: You know <3
Email: fire.thorne@yahoo.com
Character
Name: D’tan
Rank: Weyrling
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Origin: Ponaa Weyr
Appearance: For a boy of only seventeen, D’tan is filled out incredibly well. Though not exactly the tallest of figures, cutting just short of 6'0, he is built well and can certainly be called attractive. He is lean and hard, with enough muscle to take care of himself, and coupled with his broad shoulders and narrow waist it is obvious weyrlife has agreed with him. His stomach is flat and hard, his legs muscular and corded from his turns of working with stubborn, stout herdbeasts. Overall, he is not as strong as the most fit of dragonriders, but he is still a force to be reckoned with.
He is browned well from the Southern sun, and has been outdoors so much his complexion is beginning to lean more towards ruddy than just merely tanned. His features are rugged and strong, making it painfully obvious this weyrling is all male. Dark blonde hair surrounds that square-jawed face; short, choppy, and just as careless as the weyrling himself. D’tan usually always keeps his hair cut short, so it is spiky and easy to care for. His eyes are an unusual grey-blue; the color of the sea after a storm. He shares this unique coloring with his sister, Aeria.
A very patient yet determined man, D’tan walks with a long, purposeful stride. He never slouches, and his posture is almost always rigidly straight. Herdbeasts are strong creatures, and as he quickly found out, they will bowl you over if you do not have a firm stance. His hands are also scarred from working with the creatures, the evidence of bites, cuts, and burns easily seen. The weyrling also adopted the habit of wearing extremely heavy boots while beastcrafting, as he learned the hard way a large hoof planted on your foot is rather painful. He still has these worn, tough boots, and is seen wearing them still despite no longer being a beastcrafter.
Face Claim: Ewan Mcgregor
Family: Father: Aaran (53)-Drudge/Jack-of-all-trades. Aaran is a useful handyman for the lower caverns, somehow coming up with a plan to fix anything. Broken tables, kettles, you name it, Aaran can likely fix it. A cheerful man, he is content with his lot in life and is never in a foul mood.
Mother: Ellerena (51)-Creche Nanny. Elle absolutely loves children, and so is more than happy to spend her days caring for weyrbrats and any rider children fostered into her care. She has plumped up since giving birth to so many children, and has a warm, welcoming face.
Sister: Ioni (29)-Nanny/Drudge. She has a slow temper, but once you get her properly riled up, she is an absolute nightmare. Ioni helps her mother with the children sometimes, but she is mostly seen cleaning the weyrhall and kitchens.
Sister: Aeria (18)-Drudge. Ari is the sibling D’tan is closest to, even though they do not get to see each other much now. She is a very sweet person, and extremely good with people. A hard worker, Aeria is favored by the Headwoman, and may just take her place some day.
Sister: Delia (16)-Drudge. Del is a nice girl, a bit of a temper on her but nothing too major. She is very lively, and most of the other drudges enjoy her company.
Sister: Avlia (15)-Cook. Though young, Avlia is the most talented woman in the kitchen of her family. She really cannot stand children, and so will never help her mother or sister.
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Personality: The first thing one learns when working with animals is patience, and D’tan has plenty. The obstinate herdbeasts and other creatures have taught him to be tolerant and gentle, which is the manner he has adopted with other people as well. Yet at the same time, he also learned determination, for one must have an unrelenting resolve to hold out against those irritating beasts. He is extremely indomitable and unwavering, and once he sets himself to something he does it. In all actuality, he is stubborn as a draybeast, putting his shoulder to the door and shoving with all he has in him. He may seem nice and mild, but do not let him fool you. Under that calm exterior is an iron will that will not be shaken.
D’tan is also rather kind, for he is composed and easygoing. He is never quiet and reserved, and is really an amiable personality. He is talkative, as well. He is a nice guy with a gentle demeanor that belies the stubbornness that surfaces when he has need of it. The weyrling makes quick friends of nearly everyone he meets, and is extremely slow to anger. He is rather open and cheerful most of the time, but he is not a bubbly sort of cheerful. He is just optimistic, and has a ready smile for anyone that approaches him. He likes to joke around, and though he does not enjoy being the center of attention, he does like to be around people very much.
A worker, the weyrling never resented taking orders from the other beastcrafters. He is certainly more of a ‘doer’ and would not make a good leader. D’tan has his own opinions, and so would never do anything that goes against his morals, but he leaves the preparation and strategy to the rankers. He enjoys performing, not planning, and will undoubtedly make a good wingrider, and perhaps searchrider, some day.
Hobbies/Skills: D’tan is a weyrbrat, and so knows the usual drill about numbweed, chores, fixing things…the normal. Although, at an early age D’tan took to beastcrafting at the weyr, and so is also very knowledgeable about bloodlines and the conformation of beasts. He has a critical eye when examining any animal’s muscle structure and proportion, and can tell defects quickly. The weyrling enjoys riding, swimming (when the lake is actually free, anyway), and goofing off with his friends.
Pets: None.
History: Aaran and Ellerena always loved children, and so planned on a big family their whole life. Even though they were busy with their chores about Ponaa, they loved every one of their kids and raised them with good morals and a strong work ethic. Aaran, jack-of-all-trades and local handyman, was a good father, and his children looked up to him. He and Elle were almost ideal parents, to be honest, and D’tan, along with his siblings, come from a loving background.
D’tan, born Dastan, had a non-eventful childhood. Close in age and temperament, Aeria was always his favorite sibling, and they enjoyed their childhood together. They worked in the lower caverns amiably, and since their mother and eldest sister were otherwise occupied, they talked the most. Of course, Dastan took to beastcrafting early, and so they did not get to spend as much time together as before. However, he enjoyed this new world, even if the herdbeasts were stubborn and slow, it was a craft he began to love. The boy grew lean and tough as the turns went on, learning patience as well as determination. One needed both to work with the animals. He has numerous scars and marks from his labor, but D’tan doesn’t mind. It was honest work and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Looking back on his past, D’tan can find no complaints, really. His parents were good people, if a little tired and worried over the circumstances Pern was in, and his siblings got along swimmingly. They worked hard, yes, but they had support and friendship, and it made life good.
Recently, after Nisurath laid her first clutch, Dastan was picked as a candidate for the upcoming hatching, and spent the rest of his time in lessons. He was thrilled at this chance, if a bit nervous, and took to his lessons eagerly. He still made time to visit his family, especially his sister Ari, during this time to share stories. As he finally stood on the sands, Dastan’s life was changed as his beloved dragonet locked eyes with him. The now-weyrling was amazed that he, who had been no one of consequence his whole life, had been chosen by someone as beautiful and amazing as Charth to spend his days with.
Dragon
Name: Charth (means “Joy”)
Age: Hatchling
Color: Green
Clutch: 1188: Gold Nisurath/ Bronze Rovanoth
Appearance: Blue green in color, Charth is sometimes confused with a blue dragon. She is a larger green with blue and green throughout her body. In fact it looks as if she is blue with green sprinkled on top to make her hide shimmer more like a green in the light. Of course her personality would give her away eventually but to the eye it is hard to discern her true color. Her tail is long and she has a short neck but she is proportioned fine for flying though this can make her clumsy on the ground. Her legs are sturdy like a blue dragons but her head has the feminine sleekness of a green. Charth's claws are a blue that closely reflects the blue found on her hide.
Personality: A very gregarious green, one would be hard pressed to find someone Charth does not like. She has no trouble making friends and is often the center of attention. Very good at telling stories, gossiping and chatting are fun for her. Other dragons like spending time with sunny Charth, though she only likes to be with them if they pay attention to her. She loves the spotlight and wants it to stay on her. Other green's stealing this attention make her jealous and often she won't speak to them for weeks as punishment. She thinks the world of herself and her rider which is obvious to everyone else. Every so often she might bespeak someone other than her rider though these times are few and far between.
History: Dastan stood, unmoving, as the eggs began to wobble and crack. Even though the hour was absurdly late, he was wide-awake. It did not matter it was midnight—Das was tense and alert. Here he was, standing on the hatching sands of Ponaa Weyr, about to deemed worthy or unworthy of Nisurath’s children. His scarred fingers clenched and unclenched, and he took a strong stance as if facing a stampeding herdbeast. Holding his breath, he watched as the eggs cracked and shattered, revealing beautiful dragonets that called for their destined.
Many eggs hatched before a larger one began to move. It seemed the whole of the cavern held its breath as the Tiger's Eye Egg rocked and cracked. But it could not grab all the attention as the much smaller Tourmaline Egg began to twitch. And while the larger egg drew most of the attention it was the smaller who was first. The hatchling that stood on unsteady legs, just about confused everyone who looked on. A small thing, but well built by all standards, the confusing thing about it... was the color. The hatchling was such an even mix of blue-green that by looks alone it was almost impossible to discern which it actually was.
After her larger brother had Impressed, the Tourmaline hatchling stepped forward and nearly stumbled into Dastan. The boy had not been watching the bronze, though; his eyes had never left the gorgeous bespeckled green. The moment their eyes met, the candidate felt every attachment to everyone he had ever known snap, and the one thing that held him to Pern was this beautiful dragonet. They went down in a tangle of dragon and human limbs, though luckily it seemed they were largely unhurt. Dastan, now D’tan was far too elated to even contemplate embarrassment, however, and cried out joyously, "Her name is Charth!"
