How long was this going to take? He rolled his eyes and laid back down on the table. The Healers said it would only be a minute. What was a minute in their mind exactly? It had to have been a candlemark by now. He harumphed and then holding the cold pack to his right eye looked around the room to see the dimglow who had insulted him.
Evalos was not at all concerned that the boy had a broken wrist. He had deserved it. Besides if the boy had not punched Evalos in the eye then he would not have fallen and broken his wrist. Smiling wickedly at the other's pain, he only wished that he had pushed him. It was almost sad that he was not to blame for the other's fall.
Mental note, get into fights more often with people who have little to no balance and cannot blame you for their injuries. Even if the boy did, there was no proof Evalos ever laid a hand on him. Sixteen turn olds really should not bring up talk about someone being twenty without a dragon. Aliath would clutch and he would do all in his power to prove his lineage and self worth by impressing.
While he had been day dreaming the Healer came back to his table, and touched his eye. "OWE! JEEZE what are you trying to do to me?" The young man was very touchy about his injuries.
"The swelling has gone down but you are going to have to stay here till someone of authority comes to knock sense into your head Evalos. Your father perhaps? This is the third time this sevenday you've been brought in here. I'd hate to see you lose your chance to stand because you've acted rashly."
Of course the Healer knew his father. Ugh. Not someone he wanted to deal with. Still worse would be his brother. They did nto understand eachother at all even if they had the same blood. Then I should have a dragon just like he does.

(ooc: it says open but if you want it to be E'dian then disregard this post and i'll delete it later)
A'rik had been out at the lake when the kindly healer's apprentice had summoned him. Fighting among his ranks would not be tolerated. His usual grinning face was held in one of total seriousness. The young girl lead the man through the hall and into the Healer Hall. He was certain that the boy's father would also be summoned, however he felt that as Candidate Master, he should also have some words with the youth.
He moved slowly though the Healer Hall. From across the room A'rik took note of the two young men at the far side. He approached slowly, his ferocious intent behind every step. When he spoke he was not loud, only the quiet of his frustration. "Evalos? What happened?" His green eyes looked at the boy with the blackened eye, then at the young man with the bandaged wrist, then back again.
His mind was going in several directions. Fighting was not to be tolerated at all, and the boy should be punished justly. Extra chores came to mind. Lucky for Evalos A'rik is level headed when it come to these types of matters. As angry as he was, he wanted both boys sides of it.

((hehe this will be good!))
Out of his one good eye the young man saw the Candidate Master from a distance being led into the Infirmiry and groaned. He thought it could not be worse but he thought wrong. The Candidate Master was in charge of who could stand at a Hatching. Oh he hoped the punishment would not be that severe. Looking over at the other boy with eyes of steel. He wanted to threaten him in case he decided to try to lie. That would be intolerable.
Looking up at the Candidate Master as innocently as he could manage he began to tell the tale of what happened. He would leave nothing out. "Well, sir, it began like this. I was in the Weyrhall sitting at the Candidate table when this other boy came over and sat across from me. He said he knew who I was and why did I think a dragon would have anything to do with me. I'm practically too old to stand. "
Evalos took a breath and so far he had been telling the story pretty spot on so the other boy had no complaints. "I asked him to take it back." "Told me is more like it." "Fine! I told him to take it back." He glared across the space between them. "I even got up to leave, which he found threatening." That was fairly honest though the two youths were no longer looking at eachother. "He stood in front of me and asked where I thought I was going. I told him I was going to find some company that didn't smell like a runner's arse."
Evalos smiled as he said it, remembering the scene with relish. The boy across from him had gone red in the face for the second time. "So then he decked me in the eye and the gut, though the eye is much more painful. As he was lunging toward me a second time, I dodged out of the way to find him two seconds later whimpering in pain on the floor. He broke his wrist catching his own fall."
That boy would rue the day he ever messed with Evalos. The older of the two of them, he found an odd delight at winning without striking a blow. Nothing he had said was a lie or the other boy would have countered with his own ideas right away. Of course that didn't mean he was off the hook. He did not know A'rik that well. Judgement still needed to be passed.

A'rik watched carefully as Evalos said his peace. His eyes wandered from the dark haired boy over to the younger of the two. The young Candidate Master had been dreading this. His first attempt at punishment. His green eyes which normally held a sparkle of good humor were now dark and serious. He was in no laughing mood.
"I asked him to take it back." "Told me is more like it." "Fine! I told him to take it back."
A'rik held a hand up to the second boy, and gave a look of quiet disappointment. "Let him finish." His eyes rested back on Evalos. The boy smiled, as if he had gained some pleasure out of the experience.
".... He broke his wrist catching his own fall." A'rik watched the boy for a moment after he had finished speaking. His eyes moved back to the toher boy. "Is that how it went then?" His voice was stern. The other boy gave a meek nod. He was younger, a small dog who thought he was big. "Well, I admire your honesty Evalos. Thank you for that." He gave the boy a once over. "I cannot tolerate fighting among my ranks. You are both on the same side." He took a moment to take a breath. "I cannot take this lightly. You're both on herding duty for the next five sevendays." He gave them both a good staredown.

Of course he was honest. Either way the truth would have been out and then he would have worse things to do. Thats what he thought until he heard the words herding duty and five sevendays come out of A'rik's mouth. Herding duty? He wouldn't be caught dead doing that. Somehow he'd have to get someone to do it for him.
"Herding duty." He mumbled as he thought about ways to get out of it. The only thing nice about herding duty were the canines. He did enjoy them. The other beasts were dull and rather smelly. Evalos wanted to beat the other boy all over again. The little idiot had started all of this. Shards and Shells!
"When do we start?" He had to know the specifics. If only he was going to be with someone he liked to talk to for hours on end. Was there such a person? He doubted it. Most people were too caught up in themselves to really genuinely care about what another person said. In fact he was pretty sure he would rather sit in silence than listen to someone go on about their problems.
Evalos put the cold meat back up to his eye. The swelling was going down little by little. Sitting back on the doctor table he wondered if he was going to be dismissed from the infirmiry now. It would be a good idea for him to get away from here and the boy that had gotten him into so much trouble.

A'rik's green eyes flecked from one boy to the other in an attempt to gage their response to his punishment. Punishment wasn't the word for it really, more of a detention maybe or a type of community service. Whatever you wanted to call seemed to have struck a nerve on both sides. Maybe it was the thought of spending so much time in the stinking stables, or spending so much time with eachother, however you looked at it, the two of them were going to have to learn to get along. After all they could very well end up riding for the same wing, and what then? Would they just ignore eachother, or would they start fights among the wing? A'rik shook his head subconciously.
"When do we start?" Evalos' voice cut the silence, bringing him back to the world. His eyes settled on the dark boy. "Tomorrow, the two of you are to report to the stables for morning chores promply on time. Don't let me hear from the masters that you were even a moment late." His voice was firm.
"The both of you need to learn. We are on the same side, you are part of the same community. Fighting cannot be taken lightly. Someday, you may be flying for the same wing, and don't think for a moment that the wingleader would stand for this type of behavior. Now, I want an appology from the both of you." His usually golden face was dark as he gave serious looks at both of the young men.

The young man was not going to let the Candidate Master get the better of him. He would arrive at the stables on time. When was he ever late? If the other boy was that was none of his concern. The fact of the matter was that all of this would not make him like the other any more than he did now. It might even force him to notice more things he disliked.
Evalos could at least pretend that he was perfectly fine with all of this. No point in getting into more trouble right now. "Yes, sir." He sounded sincere which was easy for him. Wait till Iaslia heard about this! Herding duty, pah!
Apologize? Was the man a deadglow? He grimaced as his hand ran through his hair. Perfect, well I better do it before this boy gets me into anymore trouble. He held his head high and with the most sincere voice he could manage under the circumstances. "I apologize." He apologized that the other boy started all of this, punched him and managed to trip over himself. Evalos could not see how any of this was his fault.

A'rik watched the two boys, his eyes wandering from one to the other. After a breif pause he glanced at the younger boy. "You are dismissed, for now." He would have another conversation with the boy later, tackling Evalos first and saving the easier of the two for later.
After the youth had made his exit A'rik turned his full attention to Evalos. He took a seat on the cot which had perviously held the other boy. and took a deep breath before speaking. "I know you feel like you are not a fault here. I can tell that by your actions." He looked up at the boy. "But as the elder boy here, its your responsiblity to set an example. To end fights without continuing them." His face was stone cold. He hated this part of his job. Being an adult, and making decisions about these candidates was tough.
A'rik ran his hands through his short blond hair. This boy was a handful, as was his neice. The two of them together would no doubt be the cause of A'rik's grey hair.

Evalos wanted to groan. Of course the younger boy got to leave and he had to stay for more. He was always at fault even when he wasn't. What was the point of trying to do the right thing if you got in trouble anyway? One day, a long time from now, that boy was going to regret this. Evalos promised himself that before focusing on what A'rik was saying.
Oh great, words of wisdom from someone barely older than himself. Evalos watched the other man speaking with eyes that were set. He was going to listen to a lecture but he was not going to let a sixteen turn old get the better of him. It was not like dragonriders did not fight. They actually learned how to fight properly during Weyrling training. He had heard of riders dueling even if they were not supposed to. Personally he felt that fighting was a way to communicate even if it was frowned upon.
When A'rik was done Evalos nodded. "Of course. I understand." He touched his swollen eye tenderly, testing the amount of discomfort. Grimacing at the feeling he looked back at the Candidate Master. "Will that be all?" He really did want to get back to his life now.

When would A'rik learn that expecting the best of people would general get him no where. Maybe that was his problem. Sometimes he had to much faith in others. A'rik needed to learn that what seemed the right thing to do to him, was not always the case with others. He looked over at the smug candidate.
"Very well Evalos, you're free to go as well. Remember, herding duty for the next 5 sevendays." He made a point to mention the pending service. It was important that he stand firm behind his actions. These youths would walk all over him, especially the older ones who were only a few years behind him.
He stood and started toward the infirmary entrance. After a few paces he paused and turned back, he contemplated making another remark. Better not... He shook his head and smiled then continued on his way out.
