Seeing all of her pursuers hovering like flies over a choice hunk of meat, Aliath laughed mockingly. Can none of you really fly? You haven't lived! Spirals and figure-8s of gold ended abruptly as she came out of the spires. Over her was Xialanth. She skimmed underneath the male dragon, allowing him to feel her wingtips as she flapped to remain alight. Rumbling amusement, she crooned to him enticingly, invitingly, beckoning him come closer. Light gold shimmered against the copper-bronze of her would be mate, and then was separated. Turning a circle mid-air, she now flew in the opposite direction of the bronze.
Rakynth was her next tease. She circled around him, turning over and over him, attempting to confuse him with where she would be next. The entire Flight seemed an exercise in trickery. As she flew over, around, beneath him, wherever she could be, her claws grazed his hide. Of course, never enough to hurt the fellow dragon. Aliath only did as much as it would take to distract him for the briefest of seconds. A pendactyl digit here to tickle, a wingtip there to tingle the hide. Then she was gone.
Aliath spotted the last contender. Myneth was -- by far -- the most self-satisfied dragon participating. His attitude reflected his rider's, and this made Gaelle-Aliath smug. The gold twisted herself in midair until she was completely facing the bronze, and began to fly straight towards him, until it looked as though they might collide head-on. Aliath trumpeted her superiority and dipped far, far beneath the male before they had an accident. Still, no one had caught her, and she was feeling great.
If you can't fly like me, you can't fly me!

Myneth shot past the larger Xialanth and a growl almost escaped from the bronze's throat. How dare he? But then Aliath, clever Aliath began to mercilessly taunt all three of her suitors. Xialanth could not repress the shiver that ran down his spine and far below the movement was echoed by his rider. Fury and desire mixed into a deadly, barely harnessed mix within Xialanth and as the gold slipped by him to taunt Rakynth, Xi kicked into gear.
Copper bronze wings tucked against his side as Xialanth pulled a maneuver that was daring and incredibly dangerous. In fact, had this been any other moment he wouldn't have dreamed of such a stunt. But Aliath was growing cocky and if she got to close to Myneth with her taunting, the younger bronze might just catch her.
He barrel rolled so close to a cliff side that his wing brushed it. The large bronze was just reaching the prime of his life and he intended to show it. Xialanth dove then, without opening his wings back up and he shot forwards toward the gold who was also plummeting downwards. The momentum allowed him to get close to her, but not quite close enough. Her larger mass meant that in any dive, she would be the fastest by far.
Her words tugged at him and Xialanth pulled his wings in tighter against his body. He was no small green to zip from place to place like a dart. But he was a bronze, and if need be, he could pull a maneuver by sheer force of will alone. He did not answer her challenge with words, -he- did not need to. The bronze was going to show her just how well he could keep up with her from start to finish. Xialanth was not one of those 'come from behind' winners, oh no, he remained at the front. And he would stay with her until she was caught or his heart burst from the exertion.
Luckily for both dragon and rider, they were in excellent condition and faced no risk of such an end. Old Birath might, had he tried to compete, but the Weyrleader and his bronze were not in evidence. E'dian could almost feel himself as himself still, but the waves of emotions tumbling from the dragons made the Weyrsecond felt lost in a storm. This was no Greenflight, that was certain. The waves of desire and... no it wasn't anger... it was... well simply a level of competition in which the future of the Weyr itself was at stake, washed over the pair.

As Aliath teased Rakynth he flew steadily waiting, he knew he needed to wait until she flew higher. He spun in the air when she pulled away to get sight of her then he started to ascend. He worked on getting higher and higher into the air flying above Aliath. He was biding his time letting the gold enjoy herself. L'kus knew that the longer the flight the better the clutch so Rakynth waited. He would wait until she was ready, most likely. He glided staying above her so that he could dive at anytime to get to her.

For the briefest of moments, R'lec-Myneth's cockiness was checked as the golden mass of dragon that was Aliath barrelled towards him. It was a gutsy manuever, one that he wasn't sure she had the skill to pull off yet. The shock, relief, anger....and overpowering sense of want flooded over them both as she disappeared from view, dropping far, far below.
Nothing else mattered anymore, nothing except for catching her. R'lec and Myneth could care less where it happened - next to the ground, or miles in the air, as soon as he saw his chance, the bronze would take it. It no longer mattered, beating Xialanth, winning the Weyr. Of course they would be nice additions to the prize that was Gaelle-Aliath, she would be their only focus. In two strong beats of his muscled wings, the bronze executed a beautiful mid air flip, his trajectory now putting him on a crash course to Aliath.
Ours! Was the collective thought of R'lec-Myneth as he gained ground. They would live for their queen, but they had to catch her first. Something she was making frustratingly more difficult that it needed to be. Myneth barrel-rolled to dodge two spires that had loomed up in his way, and soon he was next to the Queen again, opposite from his opponent. He crooned his love to her, but if she would not respond, he'd soon make his move anyway.
Some golds just didn't know what was best for them. Myneth and R'lec were there to set that straight.

Gaelle-Aliath laughed at the bronzes attempting to keep up. Still, Xialanth and Myneth had risen magnificently to the occasion. Rakynth had chosen to stay above the ruckus in the sky, waiting for his chance. Unfortunately, Aliath wasn't about to let anyone win by luck; this was a competition, not a gamble. She continued on, bronzes to her right and left.
On the ground, Gaelle's eyes slipped close as she started seeing through her dragon's eyes. There was no more need to view what was around the rider, just the dragon. Both were exhilarated with the flight, having more fun than they had ever expected. However, Aliath had done some pretty risky and exhausting antics in keeping the males away from her, and their energy was draining.
In the end, she slowed down, and the more experienced, more fit bronzes caught up with her. She had burned a lot of energy already, and the flight had been a long and dramatic one. Red and purple eyes quickly whirling turned to see Myneth gaining his lead over Xialanth. The younger bronze reached out with everything he could, matching swirling eyes on his prize. Claws scraped against her as he struggled with her brushing him off.
Xialanth, not to be outdone by his competition, snorted and released a burst of speed to cover the tiny distance between himself and the gold. While Aliath was busy with Myneth, he rolled underneath under her. Aliath, distracted by Myneth's grabbing pendactyl claws, didn't notice the copper-bronze. He had done as he planned, keeping up with the young gold, and now, he would celebrate.

Myneth was close, his talons grazing Aliath's side in a caress, like a would-be lover's fingers. And then in moments that slowed to infinity - like the cold of between - she turned from him. She shrugged his advance off in favor of Xialanth. Now the red swirling urgently in the bronze's eyes was less of passion and more of anger. He - they - had lost.
Myneth backpedaled with his wings. Of course, the queen and her chosen mate had already entered their freefall, the Weyr's future to be settled in that exhilerating, dangerous fall from grace. Myneth snorted angrily, before changing directions and heading off to hunt. The only thing that would cure his wrath would be the feeling of blood on his muzzle.
R'lec slowly began coming to himself. He was in that strange stage post-flight where the lust still blanketed you, but now you were forced to see who really won. It wasn't something R'lec had to deal with often, and he was no less excited to realize that was what was going on in this moment. He sneer of disgust at the sight of E'dian and Gaelle was identical to his dragons. Strange how rider and their beast can be so similar in these situations. Grabbing the door frame, the bronze rider stumbled from the room in a daze, one thing on his mind. The need to release.
Maybe he could find that drudge from earlier. It didn't matter. Any girl would do.
They always did.

Wings snapped out and slowed the treacherous descent as Aliath came about as close as a Queen could to getting caught by Mynath. But she got away, his glorious gold got away from the would be suitor. Xialanth knew in that moment that she would be his, she would not have the others. He pumped his wings forward and spun belly up to face her. There was no triumphant roar from the bronze as his tail wrapped around hers.
The only noise, was a small croon, it was the only thing worthy of such a pairing. The roars he would save for later when the other bronzes sought to tempt away his prize. Bronze wings, still almost copper in the light stretched out below gold ones to support them. Oh no, he was not going to let her down for a long, long time. They were high enough still for Xialanth to insure that this flight was going to be as far from a greenflight as any could imagine.
Far below, E'dian brushed past the other riders, disdainful of them in his passion. They had not put their whole effort into the flight, and thus, they had lost what was so coveted. Steel gray eyes softened and looked into Gaelle's. He'd never noticed before how alike their eyes were, but the expression he bore was for her and her alone and would never been seen by any other on Pern. As the other competitors left, he drew the young goldrider to him.
He had no words, but then, he rarely did. Most people attributed that to aloofness or arrogance, but in reality it was simply because the man could rarely find the right thing to say. So, E'dian simply drew her to him, trying to maintain what little of his humanity he could muster through the haze of dragon induced passion.

Raynth spiraled as the flight ended, it still had looked to him as if she was too close to the mountains. He dove back towards the Weyr swooping into the feeding grounds and snatching up a herd beast. L'kus walked by on his way back to the book he had left patting Rakynth on his way past. The lust had passed and L'kus had resumed control. He just whistled as he walked along not seeming to have a care in the world.
