Gaelle and her golden Aliath touched down in the feeding grounds after their fantastic flight. The sights were still in their eyes as Gaelle loosened the straps from the gold hide almost mechanically. Her eyes were as far as Aliath's. A deep, rumbling hunger came from the young woman's stomach, shared with the large creature in front of her.
I must eat! Aliath said, shaking the last strap off of her wing and leaping back into the sky. She trumpeted with all of her feminine might, willing her awesome and terrible beauty to be beheld by all. Glaring around the grounds, she spotted her prey: the perfect fat and juicy herdbeast. Aliath shot down from her already low vantage point and slammed the beast to the ground. Then, her teeth entered flesh, and all was blurs.
Gaelle, mostly dazed, realized weakly what was happening. The diligent worker in her had studied hard for this moment. "Blood only!" The dragon roared her defiance. "I said, blood only!" Gaelle screamed back, her voice breaking. Skulking, the dragon returned to her meal, this time blooding the kill. When she was done, she rose to choose another.
[[And...cue bronzes!]]

Nearly smashing into the ground, Xialanth's landing ripped furrows in the volcanic soil. Wings never closed as E'dian leaped off his bronze's back and he pulled off the riding straps as fast as he could manage, gray eyes focused hard on his work.
The bronze trumpeted again, fully male and in his prime. E'dian stepped away from his dragon and deposited the riding straps haphazardly on the ground. Those he would get later. A step away was Gaelle, and the Weyrsecond focused on the young goldrider as a feline focuses on its prey. His intensity in the matter was almost as frightening.
E'dian stopped just shy of a protective hover near Gaelle. He was sure Birath would not participate, but the Weyrsecond glanced about with a hungry fervor, awaiting any challengers. He was not quite with in her comfort circle, but one glance at the intense man would ward off any but the most brave.
Xialanth's eyes whirled red and the bronze flexed his claws in anticipation. Muscles bunched and he crouched, ready for the young Queen. Oh yes, he was ready. She may be a gold and he may not have ever flown one before. But greens he had flown a plenty and Xialanth was a crafty bronze indeed. This one was not getting away.

As Gaelle and E'dian flirted via dragon, R'lec found himself pressed very closely to one of the Weyr drudges, a cute girl who couldn't be a day over 18 turns. He was brushing her hair back behind her ear, whispering sweet nothings to her when Myneth brought him up short.
Aliath is preparing to rise! I must catch her!
The full impact of the words didn't hit him for a moment, and R'lec stared so long, the girl thought to give him a little incentive to bring him back to the moment. "Stop that," he snapped. This was more important than getting some dumb girl in his bed...this flight would decide the future of the Weyr. And if he played it right, a Weyr that could....would be his. He took off, sprinting to meet up with his beloved bronze in the Bowl. There wasn't a second to waste.
He mentally ran down his competition. The old man was out, R'lec had long ago decided that the aging dragon and his rider couldn't hold a candle to the young bloods. The fact he was still in charge was merely a formality, just passing time until the weyrling gold rose. Wasn't there a bronze in the same class? He counted on that rider's inexperience, and the dragon being too clumsy to know what to do in the air. Which left....
E'dian. Wingsecond.
Yes, the slightly older man was everything that R'lec wanted - power, position. It was R'lec's personal opinion that E'dian was too stuffy to enjoy it, and that if he could just get a leg up on him, R'lec would do it right. Well, here was his chance.
Both rider and dragon made it to the scene as Aliath blooded her first wherry. "Myneth!" He called, but his bronze was already taking down one of his own, draining it of it's lifeblood in order to fuel himself for the flight to come.

Two bronzes landed close enough to the queen to irritate her. She roared her pride, and started to blood her second kill. Gaelle was watching the goings-on intensely, feeling all the superiority and heat of her dragon. When Aliath threw her head around and roared at the bronzes surrounding her, Gaelle turned to stare down the two men standing near to her, baring her teeth and for all of Pern looking as primal as it was possible to look.
And you think you're worthy for me?! Aliath demanded, sounding as coy and seductive as Gaelle knew she could be, her eyes whirling red and purple passion. The blood shimmered on her gold hide, fresh and hot. It was the ugliest, most repulsive, best, and most fortunate thing to happen for the Weyr. The young gold would ensure the Ponaan bloodlines. But not without making the best choice first.
Gaelle didn't relinquish control for a second. She wanted to have the best possible First Flight, and she knew she could if she just concentrated. The thing was, it was kind of hard with all the sensual men around her. Especially E'dian, whom had caught her eye back in the bowl. But there was also R'lec, who was closer to her age, and had a certain look to him. He looked as good as E'dian, honestly. Smiling, she stepped closer to the two men who had gathered so far. "Look at you," she said, addressing them both.

Blood was streaked across Myneth's muzzle as his tongue flicked to catch the drops. His eyes whirled quickly as he roared in answer to the Queen's challenge, in defiance of his competition. No one is worthy of you, beautiful queen. But I will fly faster and longer than any other for you!
Myneth knew enough to give the young gold her space. Let her finish blooding, he would use the time to sing her praises. The red in his eyes matched the blood on Aliath's teeth, as he watched her every move, muscles coiled in readiness.
R'lec's entire body vibrated in anticipation, already almost completely pulled into the lust that came with the flights. He was a step away from the young woman, and then even closer as she came nearer. Smell, touch, everything was amplified in this moment. The bronze rider could smell the leather on her, mixed with the sweat and excitement from her ride minutes ago. A small growl escaped his lips as he made to take her arm, blocking E'dian. She would be his.
"My queen. You shouldn't tease." His breath was hot on her cheek.

L'kus and Rakynth had both been sleeping in the weyr bowl when they both woke up suddenly a lot of activity was going on around the weyr and L'kus felt the lust tangible in the air. Rakynth stood and began to move, Alaith is rising I must join the flight. L'kus had almost as much trouble concentrating as his dragon did, Rakynth bellowed as he got ready to begin the flight and L'kus made his way towards the group gathering around the gold rider.
L'kus eyes barely registered anyone except her, the lust from not only his own dragon but all of the dragons was having a large effect on him. I will fly I am faster, I will mate her. Slowly as L'kus pulled himself together he needed to gain some amount of self control. His body shook slightly as he approached slwoly smiling pushing himself through the crowd. The background sound of all the dragons in the weyr were drowned out by the sheer intensity of emotion coming from Rakynth and the other Bronzes.
"Get ready Rakynth, this is our chance all of our hard work would be worth it fly Rakynth, fly fast," he whispered as he walked up his eyes were still focused on Gaelle as he stopped breathing heavily and finaly he pulled himself under an amount of control to the point where he stopped shaking and he smiled at her, "greetings," he strained out as controled as he could be.

Xialanth's great bronze head swung side to side in agitation as he regarded the other bronzes with contempt. Still the largest of the three, he kept his wings spread in a proprietary crouch. Half this game he knew, was played against the other contenders. Aliath's challenge echoed in all their minds and Xi rumbled deep with in his chest, a sound low and strong enough to vibrate the pebbles beneath his claws. This was not going to be easy, but then it would be all the better for it.
Fly my Queen and we shall see who is worthy. His claws flexed against the earth and eyes increased in their whirling as passions rose in a veritable haze around the group. One always said that Gold flights projected to a vast extent, but Arizith's flights had never started like this.
E'dian's voice came out without its usual poise, in fact it rather sounded as if he was spitting venom. The Weyrsecond did not move to lay a hand on Gaelle, he knew the rules of the game. But shards and shells, he was not going to let another rider force himself on her. Not by a long shot. "Let. her. go."
Gray eyes narrowed into points of steel and the tension that surged through his whipcord frame was palatable. He would never be a hugely muscled fighting man, but he was a fighter, no doubt about that. His wiry muscles and force of will had gotten him this far in life. He was not going to lose to these upstarts. Do this smart, Xi. Strength the others have in abundance.
The almost copper dragon never took his eyes away from the Queen glowing before him and he rumbled again, muscles jumping in his chest. Oh yes, this was going to be a test of stamina as well as wits. With such a young Queen, she wouldn't know all the tricks yet, but Xialanth did. The bronze ceased his head swinging, focusing with an intensity that he and his rider were famous for. Oh yes, this was going to be worth it.

Gaelle breathed in heavy the scent of male posturing and chuckled cruelly aloud. Wrenching her arm away from the bronzerider in front of her, she turned and focused her stormy blue-grey orbs into his. Smirk well in place, she addressed him alone, letting her lips come closer to his face until they brushed his cheek. "Admit it. You like it." Her finger traced his jawbone until it reached his hairline. Then it dropped and she turned away, completely ignoring his existence.
The next bronzerider made his appearance. Gaelle began to approach him, but found herself cut off short by E'dian. Don't get angry, get even, both gold dragon and goldrider thought. She turned to E'dian. "Why so serious, bronzer? No one can have just a little fun? Maybe I can teach you how to stop all that fuss." While speaking, she had been moving closer to him, swaying her hips seductively. She was the ultimate woman now.
Aliath rumbled deeply. She had blooded her third kill, all the while keeping her eyes trained on the bronzes, both joining and feeding. None of them could pull their wily tricks on her. She knew they had the advantage of experience, but she had youth and bulk on her side. As well as being physically larger than the bronzes, she also just knew she had it better. Someone might win eventually, but not without a good, long fight. With all the bronzes buried in blooding, she took to the skies. Catch me, if you can! she boasted, spreading mature gold wings to catch the thermals coming off of the extinct volcano.
Gaelle, who had stopped her antics when Aliath stopped blooding, saw the proceedings through two sets of eyes. She was with her dragon in the sky, dipping and turning around the spires of the Weyr, and yet, still on the ground with the lusty bronzeriders. This was her time, place, and element. Laughing, she turned to them. "You'll never be able to catch me!" she cackled, and her dragon in the sky trumpeted her approval.

Scattering dust and those around him, Xialanth launched into the air after the gold. Let her roar her Independence, now it was time to hunt. Rider's mind merged with dragon's, and E'dian ceased to see through his own eyes but saw through Xi's instead. Easy my dear, don't spend all your energy now. We will hunt well.
Broad wings propelled him upwards with remarkable force, cutting through the air like huge knives. The bronze hurtled himself just above and behind Aliath, staying within her blind spot. The pair of both rider and dragon went silent, this was how a hunt was conducted. Let the others posture all they wanted. They would be ready for anything she could throw at them.
Whirling red eyes fixed on the gold form below him as his wings moved with a strength that only the largest dragons on Pern could muster. Oh yes, this was going to be good. Her rebellious cries ripped through the still air and Xialanth followed the sound. She will fly well. We are up to the task.
Settling in for a long chase, Xialanth scanned the horizons, watching for changes in the air pattern that she might use to elude him. This was no Green, this was a challenge unlike any other the bronze and his rider had ever faced before. They relished in it and air rushed into lungs long trained to flights that lasted hours. Ichor rushed through Xialanth's veins and the heat of the sun above warmed him through.
On the ground, E'dian remained where he was, just outside of Gaelle's immediate vicinity. He urged his dragon silently onward. Oh yes, they were ready for this. His hands clenched and unclenched. Niether rider or dragon worried, but neither did overconfidence taint their decisions. They would do what had to be done to win. Back in his mind for a quick moment, E'dian looked over the group stoically. Neither of these challengers were worthy of her, of that he was certain.
Fly, Xi, fly.

R'lec's smirk was all lust and arrogance. He let Gaelle's arm slide easliy from his hand, finding himself pleasantly amused, and aroused, when she turned his game right back on him. Fall and fire, she would be his. Never had there been another woman so...equal to the bronze rider. No one else would know what to do with her.
Certainly not E'dian.
E'dian, who had to be intimidated by the show of possession so early on. R'lec didn't even bother looking at him now, all of his concentration was focused on the red-headed, fiery girl in front of him. And then, Aliath rose, and R'lec's mind was no longer his own. Myneth, with the speed of practice, was in the air not a second after both dragons. Xialanth may be older and larger, but Myneth made up for that in speed and cunning. Fly well! Fly strong! R'lec called his encouragement as he again closed in on Gaelle.
She will be ours, mine. Myneth took up position on a lower thermal, saving his strength until the real acrobatics began. That would be when he'd slip between the gold and her would-be mate.

L'kus was captivated caught up in the moment he paced around constantly keeping his distance as he smiled at Gaelle. Rakynth was doing the same with Aliath just waiting for her to take off. I will catch her, Rakynth shouted out telepathically bellowing. Catch me if you can, Both Rakynth and L'kus heard it at the same time.
As Rakynth launched into the air after the queen L'kus mind focused. He focused on both the mind of Rakynth and the mind of Aliath. Go Rakynth conserve your energy until the last moment then use your speed to your advantage, don't overexert yourself they can out last you. Pace yourself then burst of speed at the end. L'kus eyes focused back on Gaelle as he gave Rakynth the fleeting glimpses he was getting from the other dragons especially Aliath.

The gold dragon flew high into the sky, wingtips skimming clouds and condensation gathering on the tips of her claws. When she descended from the opalescent dew-gathers, she sparkled in the sun with the droplets of water on her hide. It was a sight to behold. The sunlight swept over Aliath as she flew stretches beyond her would-be captors. They only wanted to catch her and keep her for themselves, but she knew better. She would be free and wild and beautiful, and no grabby male dragon would stop her. The clouds and sky-brooms were her friends, and her rider was her family.
Gaelle swelled with pride, her chest becoming noticeably prominent. Her gorgeous golden dragon was flying through the sky, evading capture with style and beauty. The view was something that, in a better state of mind, she knew she would remember her entire life. Gold and bronze streaking through the sky in a magnificent aerial display of femininity and masculinity.
The gold peered behind her at the bronzes. Seeing that they were slowly gaining on her speed, she rumbled her dismay. Of course, they were smaller than she and much better able to gain speed for their momentum. No matter, she would just slow them all down. The crafty dragon she was, she began to weave in and out of the spires on the old, extinct volcano the residents of Ponaa Weyr called home. Fantastic acrobatics left many onlookers on the verge of panic. The young queen, as inexperienced as she was, might crash. Such a tragedy would prove catastrophic for the Weyr, which was depending on Aliath to further the dragon population. Of course, none of this mattered to the golden blur, who simply concentrated on having the time of her life. You silly wherries! You think you're so fast and strong, but I am the Queen! None of you can do this like me!

Strong wings propelled him higher and the bronze could not help as growl echoed from his throat at her challenge. Xialanth rose above her height, skimming around the tips of the mountain chain. Air currents were dangerous around these heights and Xia kept a careful eye on the golden blur below him. Cupping his wings against the air, he let himself drop till he flew meer feet above Aliath.
His wingspan was only slightly smaller than hers, but he had far more experience. Although, he could not help but admire her glory and with every wingbeat he hovered just over her like a protective angel. Every move she made, he echoed a moment later. Oh no, he was not letting the other bronzes get anywhere near her. This one was his.
The wind whipping by them was colder at these heights but the bronze paid it no matter. It was nothing compared to between. No roaring for him, let the others do that enough, oh no, he was staying cool through this. It was almost like hunting a feline. A magnificent, Queen of the skies though, thought nothing like those things.
His rider far below could not deny the passions raging within him no more than his dragon could. But they could keep their heads through it. The passion could be harnessed, it had to be in order to win such a flight. He straightened to his full height as Xialanth made an almost bid for the gold below him. The bronze wasn't really after her yet, he was just urging her onwards. The longer the flight, the better the clutch. Xialanth might be able to contain his voice, but the urge to roar as the bronze could was nearly unbearable for the Weyrsecond.
The bronze's long tail grazed past Aliath's, as his wings beat meer feet above her. He spared a quick look behind him to gauge where the other challengers were. Xialanth swung his head back to the gold just in front of him and he crooned, though the sound would be lost on the wind.

Myneth burst through a cloud, sending white wisps over his dark bronze wingtips, the displaced moisture in the air rolling off his well-oiled hide. He had been playing it safe until then, but it was becoming more and more apparent that it wasn't going to get him anywhere. Not with that mammoth Xialanth hovering above her like an annoying insect.
The bronze caught a thermal up to their level in the sky, wings taunt against the air flow, conserving his energy. When the moment was right, he pumped his wings, sending him like an arrow through the spires. It was easier for him - his smaller size played to his advantage in the crowded skies. He came out on Xialanth's blindside, behind and to the right. His queen challenged them all, and Myneth was not about to go down without a fight.
Trumpeting a call to the golden queen, Myneth clipped his wings and took the underside position again. This time only allowing a mere wingspan between him and Aliath. He would shadow her until she began to tire, also knowing that the longer the flight the better, and then he would be the one to catch her. He knew it.
R'lec shared that opinion. His control on the emotions careening through him was less than that of his competition, E'dian. A growl escaped from his lips gain, as his eyes - and Myneth's - gazed hungrily upon Gaelle/Aliath.

Rakynth pulled back as the gold began to weave through the mountain spire. Both he and L'kus knew that ending the flight here would most likely end the flight tragically as they were too close to the mountain slopes. The last thing either of them wanted would be to crash during mating. Rakynth skimmed a few feet higher over the spires being ready to begin to ascend when Alianth rose.
I am no wherry, Rakynth bellowed in response to the queens words. A bellow began to rise in L'kus throat as well but as he fought it down to remain in control it came out more as a rolling deep throated growl. He stepped closer to Gaelle slowing his circling. He was waiting at this point, his dragons confidence bled into himself steadying his limbs.
His hand flicked quickly but stopped after a few inches as L'kus maintained control of himself. It was getting progressively harder to maintain control. His feet were planted firmly at this point. While mostly he was getting input from Rakynth the other dragons thoughts and emotions were still bleeding through. L'kus was not sure how much longer he would be able to maintain control. This amount of input was slowly overwhelming L'kus.
